720p TV, is it PS3 worthy?

Recommended Posts

Well basically I got a 32" LCD HDTV capable of 720p/1080i and I was wondering if it's PS3 worthy. I had around $500 to play with so I was going to get a PS3, but I figured I'd be better off putting some more cash on top and going for a decent TV since I still had an SD CRT. So here I am with my HDTV LCD TV, and I want to acquire a PS3 for the games and the Blu-Ray functionality which is a plus for me since we all now know Blu-Ray won the format war, but will it do justice to the PS3 if it doesn't have 1080p? I think I heard something about most games being 720p or 1080i anyways, but what about movies, will they look nice? What experiences are you guys out there having? Also, must I purchase a cable seperately to use component or HDMI on the PS3? From what I remember seeing on the box it only comes with a composite cable.

Thanks guys!

PS3 looks just fine on my 26" LCD running at 720p. of course, bigger is better and 1080p would be ideal, but what you've got right now is good. and yes you must get a cable if you don't already have one. monoprice.com has them for cheap...don't get those expensive ones.

Thanks, so I guess games will look a lot better than SD. I guess I'll notice a nice difference in Blu-Ray titles over DVD as well? I just can't wait to reap the benefits of HD :p

I've played my PS3 on 720p and 1080p on two different Samsung HDTV's and I didn't notice a big difference, so you should be fine :)

Sweet sounds like it'll look fine on 720p :) I'm eager to get it so I can experience some nice HD, right now I only have like 5 HD channels and those look nice, although sometimes they broadcast in 4:3 although the TV says its 1080i. But sometimes it goes to 720p and looks amazing!

I can't stand 1080p, probably because I have bad eyes, and it's hard to focus on such a large image.

That makes little to no sense at all. The image size on a tv is the same regardless of resolution.

What I meant to say was a larger television, nevermind :p
