+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted April 18, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted April 18, 2008 Microsoft this week claimed to have more doubled the Xbox 360?s European sales thanks to its recent price cut, but that still hasn?t been sufficient to put it ahead of the PlayStation 3 or the Wii in the UK.The software giant made the bold sales claim yesterday, a month after the price cut came into effect. On 14 March, up to ?50 was knocked off the price of each version of the console, taking the cheapest, most basic model down to ?160. However, a Sony spokesman today hit back at the company's arch rival, telling Register Hardware that the PS3 has outsold the Microsoft console every week for the last 15 weeks. "Even this [price cut] hasn't been enough to put them ahead of UK PS3 sales," he said. But Chart Track?s confirmed to us that Xbox 360 UK sales did double in weeks 12, 13, 14 and 15, when compared to weeks 8, 9, 10 and 11. UK console sales monitor Chart Track confirmed that for the past 15 weeks the PS3 has largely kept ahead of the Xbox 360. However, a spokesman admitted that the two machines' units have been "extremely close" in some weeks. The real winner is Nintendo. Chart Track said that sales of the Wii have been ?more than double? those of the PS3 over the last 15 weeks. And the Wii would still be ?healthily? ahead of PS3 and Xbox 360 if those two machines' UK sales were combined, the spokesman said. Or is MGS4 the next big title to hit the UK? I actually think Haze comes before MGS4, but it's a bit of a loose canon - Will either scrape along, or do quite well... Minimoose
Nice to see Nintendo kicking some butt again, although i prefer the PS3 and x360 to wii :) UK isn't a massive market base though compared to the rest of Europe and the US. (Although we get ripped off so much it doesn't matter)

We might be a small landmass on the map, but we spend a BOATLOAD of money on games/electronics :p UK Europe?s leading video game marketb> : http://www.euromonitor.com/UK_Europes_lead...deo_game_market [quotUK is the third largest market for video games in the Worldb> At more than ?2 billion in 2003, the market for video games in the UK is the largest in Europe and the third largest in the world, after USA and Japan. As well as buying more video games than any other country in Europe, the creative excellence of the UK?s software houses also means that the UK makes more video games than any other country in Europe. soniqstylz
Reverse everything, and you have North America. "Price cut fails to push PS3 past XBox 360 in US" *shrug*

Bet you if you break down the PS2's 120-130 millions sales, it will go either Japan Europe USA or Europe Japan USA I'll be happy to be proven wrong though :p (couldn't find broken down figures myself)
WelshBluebird
That's the 360's home turf!Bet you if you break down the PS2's 120-130 millions sales, it will go either Japan Europe USA or Europe Japan USA I'll be happy to be proven wrong though :p (couldn't find broken down figures myself) I know its the end of 2006, but according to these numbers, it goes USA - 45 million + Europe - 40 million (with UK having an install base of 8 million) Japan - 25 million http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=11633 Would be interesting to see the current numbers though, but really, I can't see the tide turning that much. Maybe the sales in europe would have could up with the USA sales, but certainly the Japanese sales wouldn't have. As for the actual topic - if its very close between the two, does it really matter? Looking at Burnout and the like, its seems that PS3 to 360 ports are the way to go anyway (rather than 360 to PS3 ports). And its obvious the wii is going to be the PS2 of this gen (in terms of sales). So does a small different in the sales between the two consoles really mean that much to us? DrunknMunky Veteran Posted April 19, 2008 Veteran Share Posted April 19, 2008 Not surprising really when there has been no games to push the console this year. Still waiting for the first big game to hit, GTA4 obviously..
SIE
I never understand these things, is it just me that thinks it's obvious the PS3 sells more? It's like people going "yeah but the 360 has sold more units overall". No **** Sherlock.
