im wondering if i should hold off on installing the release candidate until the final version is officially released in a few days ? i've been wanting to install the new version, but i don't like beta's much. is it worth it at this time, or should i wait ?

Depends. The beta's usable and with Wubi you can install onto your HD without messing around with partitions. All it does is add an entry to your Vista or XP bootloader instead of overriding it with GRUB.

Though when I last tried the beta the update manager came up with >300 updates. I think the update repositories are still aimed at 7.10 and not 8.04.

well i already have grub as my bootloader anyways. as you can see in my pc specs, i have 5 operating systems installed. what new features are in 8.04 compared to 7.10 ?

If there are any changes from the RC to the final, you can upgrade them from within the RC anyways. I doubt there will be much if any, so I'm upgrading my gutsy box to the RC as we speak.

The release candidate is a production-quality pre-release one week before the final release. In an ideal world, it would be (functionally) identical to the final release. From here until FinalRelease, changes are only permitted at the release manager's discretion, and will only be allowed for very high-priority showstopper bugs that might justify delaying the release.

I honestly don't think it matters. I don't think you would loose support and it doesn't sound like there are any changes permitted between now and the final release. If I am wrong someone correct me.

I'd wait. I tried. Had small problems here and there. Decided to go back to 7.10. Am there now. Will wait for full normal official release of 8.04. ;)
