malebolgia Veteran Posted April 21, 2008 Veteran Share Posted April 21, 2008 Does anyone know of an addon that adds bots with some AI to TF2? Do we just have to wait till Valve programmers in AI to their weak bots?
Hurmoth
The command 'bot' actually adds bots, but sadly it isn't useful as they just stand still. Makes for good sniper target practice, but other than that I don't know of anything available yet. I'm searching now, but not finding much. The_Decryptor Veteran Posted April 24, 2008 Veteran Share Posted April 24, 2008 Can't see them adding AI, apart from CS:S I don't know of another Source game with functioning bots. Basically, they're only there for the commentary.

Rats.... guess I could always startup a bot server of TF and CS in the office.
Ayepecks
I wish there were bots like the CS bot, personally... for when my dorm Internet sucks horribly but I still want to play TF2. lol
Samn9
It'd be too hard to create bots for all nine classes that could all act as a team and not be predictable enough to be easily beaten, and it's much more fun to play against real people anyway. TF2 and CS:S are very different, TF2 is more about teamwork and communication than aiming skill.

Hacker X-13
Is it possible just to take the bots from CS and add them into TF2? I know you can do it in Gary's mod, but I don't want to pay for it.
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted May 12, 2008 Veteran Share Posted May 12, 2008 No, and Garry's Mod doesn't have CS:S bots (it has HL2:DM bots, which behave exactly like TF2's bots).

Ayepecks
Um, because Team Fortress 2 and CS:S are drastically different games, only using the same engine?
Samn9
Um, because Team Fortress 2 and CS:S are drastically different games, only using the same engine? Exactly. The CS:S bots would be very different from how TF2 is normally played.
Ayepecks
You're not getting what he's saying... people want a bot LIKE the CS: S bot for TF2. Bots that actually play the game instead of just standing in their spawn point.

Ayepecks
Yes, I know, you're missing the point... if he wanted to play Counter-Strike: Source, he would. But he wanted the bots (their ability to actually play the game and make decisions) in Team Fortress 2. He didn't want Counter-Strike: Source in Team Fortress 2, he wanted Team Fortress 2. The_Decryptor Veteran Posted May 16, 2008 Veteran Share Posted May 16, 2008 CS:S bots never got added to the other games for some unknown reason, maybe now Turtle Rock Studios is a part of Valve, it might happen. TF2 would require some changes though (like the engineer would have to know to build a dispenser near his sentry, or he would have to know how to build near a ammo/metal box, medic would need to know how and when to uber people, spy would need to know how and when to cloak and disguise, etc.
Phantom Limb
Even if we could only figure out a way to get AI to work with a soldier, it'd still be better than nothing. I'd really like to practice on a server where someone isn't a freaking sniper expert. :(
