Nightz
You're going to have to wait a little bit longer for Home. Sony's much-discussed online service debuted at GDC over a year ago, but it's still been restricted to a number of closed beta participants. According to a new press release by both SCEA and SCEE, the closed beta testing will continue through Summer, with an open beta finally available in the Fall."We understand that we are asking PS3 and prospective PS3 users to wait a bit longer, but we have come to the conclusion that we need more time to refine the service to ensure a more focused gaming entertainment experience than what it is today," said Kazuo Hirai, President and Group CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. "Our overarching objective is to provide users with new gaming experiences that are available only on PLAYSTATION Home. Spending more time on the development and on the Closed Beta testing reaffirms our commitment to bringing a quality service, maintaining the PlayStation tradition." It appears that more people will be invited into the closed beta. However, this recent delay of Home is continuing a disturbing trend of promises that are delivered late or not at all, such as in-game XMB and game invites -- these features are far more valuable than an online world to walk through. We're sure everyone will echo the same sentiment: it's been taking Sony much too long to deliver on these promises. Stay tuned for any new developments regarding the Home beta. http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/04/22/home-g...duled-for-fall/ delaystation indeed. Keito
What a way to shoot yourself in the foot. You have to give Sony credit for that - they always seem to come up with new ways to screw themselves over.
PiracyX
So translation is Home was never going to be ready until the Fall/Q1 2009 anyway. How did i not see this coming?
+StevoFC MVC Posted April 22, 2008 MVC Share Posted April 22, 2008 If I didn't run Folding@Home on my ps3 24 hours a day I'd probably be ****ed that I even bought one.
CY:G
So you all rather have a subpar and unstable product than wait...??? This is normal, i wouldn't be surprised if after this delay the final product still was buggy and unfinished..., the scope is pretty big and they have never done anything like it. Julius Caro
Sony should get their **** together. I'm tired of all the delays. Delaystation for sure! (when resistance2 gets released I'll be set for another 2 years anyway)
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted April 22, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted April 22, 2008 If I didn't run Folding@Home on my ps3 24 hours a day I'd probably be ****ed that I even bought one. Annoyed that you bought it "early" yeah, but if you have any interest in any exclusive franchise the PS3 will have/BR & media functionality you'd of bought one at somepoint anyway :p As for Home, doesn't surprise me. It's a huge project to deliver, I only hope Sony have on paper what they want in the first public release and stick to that. Reason I say that is, Home could be "delayed" forever with all the additional content/services you could potentially add to it, so what Sony really need to do is get something out that's good for the kick off, and then just add to that. It's also going to be a potential money/income trojan for Sony and investors, so I'm sure part of the delays are down to getting functional advertising/movies and tv shows incorporated and possibly even functional shops from 3rd parties. Home isn't just about games, Sony are creating a whole platform out of it. You can bet it WON'T die when the PS3 dies out, Home will no doubt carry on into the life of the PS4, and probably even spread to other devices in some fashion - Home on Sony mobiles? Or at least some of the services Home offers. With this delay, I now change my idea of Home/XMB coming together like I voted in the poll I made a few weeks back. I can see XMB still being rolled out in 2.4 to bump up the much needed functionality in games, which will please many not even wanting Home, then Home rolling out later in the year. I do think we'll see it in 2008, Sony want to make an impact this year, but I do say to everyone/sites, cut the absolutely stupid weekly Home release rumours - It's done when it's done, and you can bet Sony will be making a LOT of noise surrounding the release of Home. It's idiotic to think some of the rumours of a casual overnight release of Home that people came away with  You'll know Home is coming out at least a good few weeks before the date, if not a month or two IMO. Hell-In-A-Handbasket
Home will be bundled with the PS3 version of Duke Nukem forever i like the idea of Home, just taking to long, but then again its free so aside from Corperate adds they will see no revenu from Home, unless they count PS3 sales if they went Paid like 360, would be a faster turnaround time more then likely

Neil
Well they are still on 0.8.3, but it seems okay, I think they must be hiding something because I have been beta testing it for the last few months and it is fine.
KoL Veteran Posted April 22, 2008 Veteran Share Posted April 22, 2008 Home was supposed to be released on Q3-Q4 2008 but now we are going to have an Open Beta instead?? That's fine with me.
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted April 22, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted April 22, 2008 (edited) Home will be bundled with the PS3 version of Duke Nukem foreveri like the idea of Home, just taking to long, but then again its free so aside from Corperate adds they will see no revenu from Home, unless they count PS3 sales if they went Paid like 360, would be a faster turnaround time more then likely I actually think they can make more revenue than Live pretty easily over time. Due to a different approach to advertising, and the ability to bring in a lot more corporations than Live can on the advertising front. If the cinema in Home functions like many think it may, there's a good stream of revenue right there. Then you have the mall, which MAY allow you to buy content one day like a normal shop - It's not a far fetched idea, it would just be like visiting "sitex.com" and buying sitex's goods from there, but instead on Home you're doing it in a 3D enviroment. Your order would still go through like it does in real life when ordering on their webpage, and the goods get delivered to your REAL home door :p Sony partners up with some worthwhile online retail, promote their products in the mall and maybe even give Home buyers an additional discount over normal web shoppers, and that's a good partnership right there :p Even if they just start off by offering a lot of their own products (TVs/Electrical appliances) in Home, they'll pioneer the ability to buy real world goods in Home. Ambitious ideas, but the whole concept of Home is ambitious on a gaming platform anyway, it's not as if Sony wont try more ambitious avenues to generate profit/interest. Home was supposed to be released on Q3-Q4 2008 but now we are going to have an Open Beta instead?? That's fine with me. I see the whole "Open beta" thing really just being the release of Home. It's an ever expanding organic product, always changing and it will never be "final" as such. It's going to be like Gmail, fully functional and working as you'd want it, yet years after release, it still has the "beta" tag slapped on it. The day the public gets their hands on Home is the release IMO, unless Sony genuinely do a few days/1 week stress test first then close up shop until another release date - Much like how a "normal" beta like the MGO one works, you can test it for a while, then it gets closed until the "final" release. Novaoblivion
I think its good it was delayed again, although it "works" now I dont think its really ready for everyone. It still feels like it is missing something.
+StevoFC MVC Posted April 22, 2008 MVC Share Posted April 22, 2008 I don't care about Home specifically being delayed. I'm just sick of everything getting delayed. Barely anything so far has been released when it was originally slated to be released.
