+ir0nw0lf Subscriber² Share Posted April 23, 2008 WARNING: Over on the Microsoft tech forums, there is a known issue: If you are using Vista as a host machine and slipstream your XP with SP3, your key may not work. Confirmed by several people already. Some were using VLK copies, some their own OEM or Retail copies. Seems to be related to Vista as the host OS. In other words: do your slipstreaming on a XP box or inside a virtual OS! Link to post: Link
Rigby Share Posted April 23, 2008 Great, so I wasted a lot of time and a blank CD. :( Something else I was wondering about, there was a rumor that you could not slipstream SP3 into an RTM copy of XP. You have to use a SP1 integrated copy or later, was there any truth to that?

x9248 Share Posted April 23, 2008 Is it really that big of a deal that people can't wait till it's available from Automatic Updates? "Windows? XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) includes all previously released updates for the operating system. This update also includes a small number of new functionalities, which do not significantly change customers? experience with the operating system." If you kept your PC up to date then what's the hurry? I can understand it being used for fresh installs/reformats but really, there is no rush...

But then again most people on neowin live and breath this stuff. So of course they want to install it early. Besides that I would prefer to get it and test it and even slipstream it before my customers start installing it.

Raa Share Posted April 23, 2008 (edited) Open a command prompt and type VER Incorrect. Open Internet Explorer and goto Help -> About. (Y) Edit : This only works on IE6. Sorry. You can also get the file properties of most dlls in system32 folder to see the build number. (5512) Also note : You cannot slipstream or install SP3 over XP RTM, you need SP1 minimum, despite this SP being cumulative. Edited April 23, 2008 by Raa

Yes you can, I just finished slipstreaming SP3 into XP Gold (Corporate Professional) and installing-testing it in a virtual machine, used AutoStreamer to do it.
