Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Recommended Posts

When Epic released a map pack for Gears of War it came with four maps and cost ten dollars also.

I'm not talking as far back as that, I'm talking about what UT3 can do on the PS3 - Support custom maps.

You see, the community doesn't mind making hundreds of maps for free, yet the developers seem to like to charge for nearly if not every one they make... :/

And it's usually $10 a pop, which is too much IMO with the size of the audience for some of these games.

Even if they were $1 each, you'd have thousands, if not millions buying them for some online titles. Hardly a bad cash in in respect to how long it will take you to make a map for a game where all the content is in place, all you are doing is creating a map.

Pretty sure I won't be buying any future COD games based on the fact that they are charging for content updates and are neglecting PC users.

(If you happen to even have a job) I'm pretty sure you like to get paid for it. They made a game, they sold it. They make additional content (maps), they sell it. These people aren't volunteers, do you have any comprehension of the vast (extremely skilled) teams required to develop a computer game?

Developing the game, which we've already paid for, and developing additional maps are two different things.

We've already paid these people for the game and their work in making it, so they're far from "volunteers".

While for the business element, it wouldn't make sense for all your DLC to be free (well Valve would disagree with that, nearly ALL their DLC is free), a lot of DLC

a) Has wacky pricing, which is too high

or

b) Developers make nearly, if not ALL their DLC cost - SOME of it should at least be free IMO

And no, a free bug fix patch is not DLC.

Actually yes I understand how games are developed. If you look in quite a bit of the old Counter-Strike maps (1.6) you'll see the name SOOPRcow in quite a few easter eggs. I know quite a bit about map development in general although I will admit I don't know much about the COD4 engine.

That all said, as a consumer I have the choice to no longer buy their content which as I stated I am no longer doing. I am upset at them because not only are they charging for content that almost every other developer would give away for free but that they are alienating the PC users. The alienation is actually what upsets me the most as a consumer of their products.

Oh and as for your childish comment about me maybe not having a job, grow up.

I wouldn't even mind paying for it, I just really hope they don't neglect pc users because these maps look awesome. I think people that paid for the pc game deserve these as well. And I don't imagine porting a couple of maps would be that much of a massive project.

Because they spend their time to make them? This is almost standard practice now. Where have you been?

Yeah but $10 for 4 maps?? Come on, this should be like $5 tops and even then it is pushing it!

I love the new maps but I agree $10 is a little high. I love Chinatown and Broadcast. I hate Creek, to many snipers.
