Dumb question but... how do i install themes in debian?

I have xfce and i just download a tar.gz with the images and w/e in it for the theme.... i have no clue what to do next. In settings panel there is no place to manage theme =\

Go to the appearance dialog, then drag and drop the .tar.gz file into the window, where the other themes are. There is a folder for themes but I can't remember which ... there is one in /usr/share and another in your local folder, but the drag&drop should work

System > preferences > appearance

then click on "install..." and select your tar.gz

if that doesnt work, click on "customize...",

on "controls" you drop gtk themes, on "window borders" you drop metacity themes, and on "icons" you drop icon packs. that's where the drag & drop will work, I think
