Haze Blog: It's Good to Play Together

Recommended Posts

What?s your favourite part of the online gaming experience? Is it the shooting people?s faces in? Is it the kicking of asses from around the globe? Is it the slim possibility of impressing a player with a girl?s name, only to discover later that ?she? is a fat, 13-year-old boy? It may be one of these things, it may be something else, but I?d bet my eye teeth that your favourite thing isn?t sitting around in a lobby, waiting for your buddies to get organized so you can jump into a game together. I mean, seriously, **** that.

In Haze, we?re making a point to minimize your lobby time. In fact, here?s how it will play out: if you?re playing a single-player game and you start finding things tough, you can just ring up three buddies and they can drop straight into your game ? no waiting around; no need to quit out and find them in a lobby.

They can jump in and out of your game at will in real time. Of course, that goes for a split-screen player too. Someone can join your game on the same console, and then have the other two hook up on a LAN or online, or any possible variation on that theme. The choice really is yours. We?re not going to second guess how you like to play, so we?re leaving it up to you.

Of course, if you decide to play alone, or with a squad of less than four, or if someone decides to quit out, then the game will provide you with additional AI soldiers in their place ? AI who not only can run and gun with the best of them but they?ll also get mad at you if you suck, and maybe even turn on you if they decide you?re a liability.

By now I?m guessing that most people know that if you take too much Nectar as a mantel trooper, then you?ll overdose and start shooting all your buddies. Of course, this adds a whole new dimension to co-op, because you haven?t just got to watch the enemies ? you?ve also got to keep one eye on your buddies.

If they?re a little too eager with those nectar doses, then you?re either going to have to fid a hiding place, or take them out before they get you. It?s a sure-fire way to make you get mad and shout at your friends, and isn?t THAT what online gaming is really about?
