My screenshots are blank

Recommended Posts

Hey

Well, I got Mandriva working again. Yay! (Thanks to all who helped me, worked like a charm when I didn't have typo's) lol But now I go to take a screenshot, and they are blank...well...black. I tried both Gimp and Ksnapshots and both same result. A black image. I tried to google, but didn't find anything useful...Maybe I'm just tired, not sure, but any idea's how to fix it? I'm assuming a video card driver problem or something?

Thanks to any help :)

Try doing an import -window root test.png then view the .png file with any viewer you have.

That should work and give us a start point for figuring out what is going on.

That import command doesn't seem to work...even when logged in as root...

bash: import: command not found

And I can view images just fine with Showfoto

import is part of imagemagick. you need to install whatever package contains imagemagick for that to work. an alternative would be to install scrot.

you can:

sudo apt-get install imagemagick

and that should do the trick (in the terminal of course)

Ok, finally got imaginemagick to work. Sudo doesn't seem to work with Mandriva, but I found it and installed. I did the command, and it took a screenshot, showing the terminal, surrounded by blackness lol

Yipers!

Can you try System-->Preferences-->Appearance-->Visual Effects

And set it to 'None'?

This seems to be a weird compiz problem I've had problems with with my old laptop. It is what it looks like, anyways.

Can you give that a go?

SORRY, you've got Mandriva. The point I'm making is that you can go back to metacity. Can you do that? compiz may be the prob.

Well, you were right James lol. I can take screenshots now. I guess when I take screenshots I can't have 3D effects turned on. Kind of a pain in the butt, but oh well

Thank you very much everyone for the help:)

lol seems you and me have got old video cards!!! I can run compiz but it gives random problems like what you had so I just keep it at metacity. Maybe with my next laptop I can go full compiz!!

lol just a few years old. GeForce 2 MX400 64 meg. Got it for 60 bucks back in 2000 or something like that haha And I can't run full Compiz. I get a grey screen and nothing else will happen when trying to login. I finally upgraded my ram last week. Bought 512. Was at 256 before that lol (mother board only supports 1 gig anyways) Still stuck at 1ghz though

I think we should both make a resolution to buy all new kit in 2009! I love my old 2004 laptop but I want to move on to better things. Sure Linux is great for the old hardware but if you've got cutting edge kit it's just grand. :D

That was the first program I tried, and it was blank like everything else. But it does work now. :) A pretty cool program too. Something Windows could use I think. Haven't used the gnome program though. Only have kde 3.5 install
