giga Veteran Posted April 30, 2008 Veteran Share Posted April 30, 2008 I'm sure the rating of 10 in graphics was due to the immense scope of the game.
Matrix XII
Well yes, but their scores aren't an average. I could think of at least 10 games with much higher graphics that didn't get rated a

Matrix XII
I understand what you're saying, but would you call those worthy of a 10 in graphics? Or are you just defending them? lol
giga Veteran Posted April 30, 2008 Veteran Share Posted April 30, 2008 My judgement of the graphics are based on the context of the type of game and scope of it. There's no doubt that there are some minor issues but from an overall point of view it's marvelous. Animation and artistic design come together to get a 10. The details throughout Liberty City really does make it seem more realistic than ever. Graphic design is far more than skin deep.

Badtz-Maru
the GTA series was never about graphics, if you noticed 1 and 2, they were top view shooters, with no attempts at graphics. GTA3 and SA had a cartoon touch to it, while other games of the time had better graphics. The developers never spent time on them and focussed on gameplay. Matrix XII
Context and Type of Game are what the other 4 category's are for on the ratings. Graphics means Graphics...... Yeah exactly. @blue - yes I agree, but I'm trying to find out why reviewers keep giving the graphics a 10. All the other parts of the game are worthy, but I'm just playing devil's advocate. lol
Dc'1
10 :) The game is great! It's the first GTA game I've not used/dont want to use cheats in lol. The storyline is great, and I like that there is more than one dialogue for the missions.
PyX
First thought : 10/10 Second thought : 9/10 Why? Because they cut off too many cool things from San Andreas. - You cannot buy properties (that was one of the coolest features IMO, and it generated money) - There's a lot of missing weapons (flamethrower, american punch, golf stick, etc.) - You cannot customize your character as much as before (tattoos, hair, beard, gym) - You cannot hold up a store anymore - Now this one is personal, but they should have done an interior of a police station. I never get tired of hospitals and police stations! - No planes, jet-packs, farm trucks, buses, trains (to drive), ... Now, the game itself is really exceptional, don't get me wrong on this. But they took off a lot of fun stuff, so the single player mode is just about doing missions and hanging out with people.
Kupo-Cheer
the GTA series was never about graphics, if you noticed 1 and 2, they were top view shooters, with no attempts at graphics.GTA3 and SA had a cartoon touch to it, while other games of the time had better graphics. The developers never spent time on them and focussed on gameplay. They spent plenty of time on them; but the problem is always hardware limitations. Most games with huge, open worlds have to make sacrifices in the small picture to make good the big picture. The obvious exception to that is Crysis, but just look how that runs... They make a playable framerate, given what they have, a priority to make the overall experience better. That isn't to say that GTAIV has a solid framerate. It isn't bad, but it's not perfect, either. You'd think that given the smallish texture resolution and number of polygons in some cases, that the game would run better, no? But you also have to look at a few other things, like the sheer number of things going on at once, and the wide variety of post processing effects constantly applied to the scene. And even with those aforementioned limitations, the game looks pretty damn good. Tell me you don't see the beauty from staring across a river at a sea of tall skyscrapers, shimmering water, boats, planes, people... and especially at night, when all of that is brilliantly lit.
