TheElite
No. As the hardware is not 1080p capable.

jmc15john
??? You can't display 1080p on a 1080i TV. Most 1080i TV now have 720p which means 1280x720 lines so you can't force 1920x1080 onto a smaller screen. It's like trying to display 1440x900 on a laptop that only outputs 1280x800 it just won't work. Sorry. JM
+BeLGaRaTh Subscriber¹ Posted April 29, 2008 Subscriber¹ Share Posted April 29, 2008 You have a snowballs chance in hell of forcing a 1080i TV into 1080P, it just doesn't have the resolution/pixels to do so :(
P!P
You can't "force" your TV to do anything. You can output 1080p but your TV will just downconvert.
stezo2k
Some TVs will downscale 1080p to 720p, a lot of panasonics do, even the older ones
Bhav
There's no "safely" about it - it just won't work lol
crazzyyfool
What TV do you have? Even though my TV is 720p it will accept a 1080p signal (most won't) and the display info shows its 1920x1080p. I know its not actual 1080p but it looks better than 720p anyway.
WastedJoker
My TV supports 1080i. I just thought I could force the PS3 to display games in 1080p and my TV would downscale to 1080i. Apparently not. Thank you :)
Olemus
You can set your device to run at 1080p but your tv will just down convert it to 1080i :p

+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted April 30, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted April 30, 2008 Confused. Is 1080i better than 720p? Not really for gaming. For Film/Movie watching maybe. Very few games may run better in 1080i, but the main reason a game would have 1080i is if your TV didn't support 720p. Run games in 720p/1080p. +jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted May 1, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted May 1, 2008 I can tell the difference between 1080i and 720p. It's much sharper in 720p.
richardsim7
There is no forcing of display. The TV will accept the 1080p signal and down-convert to 1080i :) -Rich-
