pmh
So I picked up GTA 4 today, planning on messing around with the multiplayer, and all I get is error messages (when i try to play multi). I know that other people are experiencing the same thing, but where can i complain directly to rockstar. I think it's fair when they claim it runs at 720p (and it doesn't) or their multiplayer doesn't work as advertised, and I put out cold hard cash, I think I have the right to be a little upset about it. anyone have an email address, or phone number? thanks guys! P.S. My other online games work fine.
spenser.d
To be fair, the MP thing is on SCEA/Gamespy's side (or I assume so, as the Kotaku article says SCEA is the one trying to fix that problem). And complaining about the 720p thing is just stupid. There's good reason why they'd do it a different way and it doesn't look any different for you. But if you must, I'd check their website first for contact info, not this website. -Spenser

pmh
I wouldn't complain if it didn't say it on the box. That's just misleading.

pmh
good news guys! mine is working now! I had to click on multiplayer about 10x in a row before it worked, but ever since, it's been fine. good luck!
crazzyyfool
the game runs at 620 p then upconverted while the xbox runs at 720p Why render the game at 620p? Why not just 720p in the first place? Especially since the X360 version is 720p.

randomnut
I would suspect because the 360 has more RAM and a better GPU, these are the things which will enable a console to render at higher resolutions. The PS3 having a better cpu on it's own means it's better at it's own set of things but that just isn't one of them. Those that laughed at me when I said Live has the better infrastructure, there's the proof. Being a paid service they have been able to invest in preperation and it's worked really well. PSN was designed to be free (and i'm not knocking it because of that), just that design now shows quite clearly.
popisdead uk
Its 640p actually, and what does it actually matter? Really? It still looks good, you could argue it looks better than the 360 version (most reviews do) Moaning and whining for moaning and whining sake. popisdead uk
Because 640p isn't HD, is it? I don't believe I said it was? My point is that it still looks as good, if not better than the 360 version. If some saddo hadn't spent time zooming into screens, this would never have been known and nobody would have said a thing. randomnut
Thats utter rubbish. What happened at Xmas then? 4 weeks outage. Really good. 1. It wasn't continual, 2. They've over resourced now rather than under to cope with new users (something PSN certainly hasn't achieved) 3. A few glitches over xmas compared to continual poor performance/speeds on PSN? Excuse me while I go play my *working* GTA online.

Excuse me while I go play my *working* GTA online. 1. This is the first time I've not been able to play a game on the PSN, hardly 'continual' 2. The PSN is a relatively new service, there were times when XBL was under resourced (not that the problem with GTA is anything to do with the PSN as its up and running) 3. GTA is working fine for the majority of people on the PS3, so yet again your posts are appearing as nothing but fanboy dribble. Slow speeds? Nope. Poor performance? Nope. Epic fail. [bear]
The box on GTA IV said it supports output to 720p, 1080i, and 1080p. It doesn't say anywhere that it runs at 720p. FAILBOAT. critics. All this complaining is hilarious. Well, instead of wasting my time I've been playing GTA IV comfortably.
spenser.d
Thats utter rubbish. What happened at Xmas then? 4 weeks outage. Really good. I'd like to see the PSN handle 1 million new users within a few days. Oh wait, it's not ever going to be popular enough for that to happen  Not to mention you're blowing that way out of proportion. I was only out for about a week and I think most were only out for 2. Fact is, an extremely popular game came out, XBL was able to handle it, Gamespy (outsourced to by SCEA on the PSN) wasn't. Oh, and I think [bear] just won this thread  -Spenser

At least when psn does drop in one game, all other games are fine! live dropped out for weeks and were forced to give away a freebie to hold back the lawsuits. When live dropped near enough everything dropped.

Seeing as the PS3 has over 11 million users, I will leave you to do the maths.
Ultomato
Because 640p isn't HD, is it? ... its close enough to HD, and plus it looks better than the 360 version so no one cares if it has a few more pixels

Yes, but not always, the service can also be very fast. Just the other day it took about 10 mins to download the latest firmware. A complete joke, and before you say, nothing to do with my net connection. Poor performace? Yes, after all, why would the OP create this topic for, if things were perfectly fine  As for XBL being down, like Stifler said there was a massive increase in users signing up. Two weeks down time is nothing when it's been available for 5 years, going on 6.

Not all users will use PSN, at any time in the PS3 generation. Far from it, I think Sony would do good to try and hit 50-60% of their userbase. If you do have an internet connection though, there is no reason not to check out PSN and/or play your games online. So without a doubt, every single PS3 owner, plays it online? Nopeand every single PS3 owner who also owns a net connection, plays online? Nope Slow speeds? Yes, but not always, the service can also be very fast. Two weeks down time is nothing when it's been available for 5 years, going on 6. By the way, for future reference, download the PS3 firmware from playstation.com and then you can stick it on a memstick and install. Maybe save yourself a crucial 5 mins ;) So without a doubt, every single PS3 owner, plays it online? Nopeand every single PS3 owner who also owns a net connection, plays online? Nope Only difference is everyone can if they want to, with Live you need to setup a subscription - So while everyone can on Live as well, there is a hurdle to climb first which you either go over, or don't. So in 5 years, you might see a higher % of the PS3 install base owning up to using these features than the 360, just because it's free and doesn't require a pre-paid card or a credit card. Who knows though, that's just a prediction. I don't do a ton of online gaming on either of my consoles (WoW and TF2 eat up my time), so I wasn't getting any advantage to paying money to MS and any multiplatform titles I want I can play for free on PSN - One of the main reasons I got GTA4 on my PS3. And for the record, comparing Live being down to GTA4 being down on PSN is absolutely daft. One is a complete infrastructure, the other is a piece of software. Do we even have a reason for the PS3 multiplayer being down for a day or however long it was? PSN may have or not have contributed towards GTA4 problems, but still a whole network going down compared to one causing teething problems in one game, is hardly comparable on many levels. Once PSN goes down like Live did, then all you eager comparison hawks can fire up your comments. Edited April 30, 2008 by Audioboxer
