PS3 GTA4 No Multiplayer

Recommended Posts

The reason for the lower rendering is that the GPU has less pixels to work with. I am not sure if they did that just to keep the frames at playable rate or was there another reason for doing so....?

Anyhow, after the game is rendered at 640 it's being upscaled to 720p or 1080i/p.

They might have gone this way due to memory bandwidth constrains between the GPU and the Video RAM.

By the way, for future reference, download the PS3 firmware from playstation.com and then you can stick it on a memstick and install. Maybe save yourself a crucial 5 mins ;)

Only difference is everyone can if they want to, with Live you need to setup a subscription.

So in 5 years, you might see a higher % of the PS3 install base owning up to using these features than the 360, just because it's free and doesn't require a pre-paid card or a credit card. Who knows though, that's just a prediction.

I don't do a ton of online gaming on either of my consoles (WoW and TF2 eat up my time), so I wasn't getting any advantage to paying money to MS and any multiplatform titles I want I can play for free on PSN - One of the main reasons I got GTA4 on my PS3.

And for the record, comparing Live being down to GTA4 being down on PSN is absolutely daft. One is a complete infrastructure, the other is a piece of software not related to PSN. Do we even have a reason for the PS3 multiplayer being down for a day or however long it was?

Once PSN goes down like Live did, then all you eager comparison hawks can fire up your comments.

How about they just fix the damn issue eh? Much better  Whether the minutes were cruical or not is not important, their poor service is  I shouldn't need to go online to download an update when consoles have been doing the same job since last generation.

Live does not require a subscription. Everyone can use it if they wish to. Only when and if they want to go online do they need to subscribe. Big difference, get it right (Y)

Don't be so naive, I could have said that to MS for 3 weeks at xmas.

I shouldn't need to go online to download an update when consoles have been doing the same job since last generation.

What?

You go online on your PS3 or on PC to get the firmware, I really don't see what your gripe is or how issuing firmware is "poor service".

Live does not require a subscription. Everyone can use it if they wish to. Only when and if they want to go online do they need to subscribe. Big difference, get it right (Y)

Uh whatever, chop and change words, you need to pay for Live to really get a use out of it, which is playing your games online.

Silver users also get frustrated with waiting longer to get demos, so really again, not paying for Live = Not really getting much use out of it.

The point of this topic is about GTA4 multiplayer, so what I said about needing to have a subscription was hardly out of context, as to have multiplayer in GTA4, you need to.

How am I being naive? These slow download speeds have haunted the PS3 since launch. Where is the feedback from Sony saying they are constantly upgrading the service? MS' situation was completely different as it took place over the holiday season when it's hard to staff.

Sigh. If I want to download the firmware via the XMB I should be able to do so, without the poor download speeds. I did not say the techniques were poor service.

You are letting your standards slide dude. "uh whatever"

If you think being connected to Live is only about playing games online, you my friend, are the naive one

Admitting you spend little time online on the 360 really does shine, maybe you should use it longer before hitting out with these comments.

The PSN isn't popular? What planet are you living on?? Its free, therefore anybody with a PS3 and internet is using it to play games on.

Seeing as the PS3 has over 11 million users, I will leave you to do the maths.

Wow, you've managed to be wrong again.

PLAYSTATION?Network Continues to Thrive: In North America, there are over than 3.7 million registered PLAYSTATION Network accounts and more than 67 million pieces of content have been downloaded from PLAYSTATION Store to date.

This is a quote from Sony's mouth in response to March NPD statistics.

Some say slow speeds, others say fast speeds. The PS3 firmware isn't exactly small as Sony make you download the whole thing which is roughly 120-140mb.

It doesn't max my internet speed, but it's never been painstakingly slow for me either.

Sigh. If I want to download the firmware via the XMB I should be able to do so, without the poor download speeds. I did not say the techniques were poor service.

Um, you ARE downloading from the XMB.

As for it being slow when you downloaded, I can't tell you why. PSN busy, servers not fast enough, I don't know.

You are letting your standards slide dude. "uh whatever"

Reason number 1, and the most important for most people. If it wasn't arguably the most important thing about Live MS would allow Silver users to play games online, but they don't.

I never said it's only about playing online, and I know it isn't.

Again in the context of this discussion we are talking about GTA4 multiplayer, not the ability to send messages to a friend, or share your gamerscore, or rent a movie.

Admitting you spend little time online on the 360 really does shine, maybe you should use it longer before hitting out with these comments.

?

I know how good 360 online is, so I have no idea what you're getting at.

I didn't want to go back to Silver, as I do play Halo 3 and some other titles online from time to time, but I'm not doing it enough to justify me paying, that is all.

If I wasn't a multiplatform gamer, I'd no doubt have a 12m subscription, but I am a multiplatform gamer and can therefore jump to and from consoles/services as I please.

Hardly "hitting" out at anything, or dissing the service itself. If anything, my only negative comment was infact towards the subscription element (paying), which is not an actual criticism of what the service can do, just how it's creators allow you to experience it.

This conversation is going nowhere, we're going over the same old arguements. If we are going to compare services, we compare the whole thing, not the pieces you want to just to fuel your arguements  Especially when you twist and change them so much, it's just pointless. Like talking to a brick wall..

Oh well sorry to have wasted your time, next time bail out earlier. Thanks for calling me a wall as well, much appreciated. Guess since no one likes talking to a wall, I won't see you getting involved in discussions/debates with me anymore?

I also don't see what there is here to "twist", no truths/facts have been manipulated at all. Some misunderstandings, but they were cleared up.

ps. It's perfectly acceptable to compare specific areas of a service to specific areas of another. If you always compared every part of it in every discussion, then you'd really be going around in circles.

Ok last time I post in this topic..

First of all, I never got into this discussion with you, you approached me by quoting my post. If that even matters? Anyway..

We've already seen popisdead changing the number of users on PSN. Then there is you "chopping and changing" words. Either say what you mean or don't at all. All you do is cause confusion otherwise.

And it wasn't me that decided to bring up the issue of down time, amount of users etc into this discussion. I was merely correcting someone. That is the reason why I compared services and not just GTA4.

I forgot that the world was North America and nothing else. Silly me. I'm also not sure on these 'FACTS' I'm supposed to have given? I gave no numbers.

My original post was not wrong as you put it. Read it again.

I fail to see what this conversation has to do with multiplayer not working in GTA 4. DrunknMunky wins for figuring that out first.

Don't play stupid. You implied an online base of 11 million when it's not even 4. Or maybe you were telling me to do the math because you don't know how to do math, idk, but otherwise that's all there is to assume you meant.

That's alright though, I don't actually have to see your obnoxious posts. The forums come with an ignore feature for a reason.

Let me answer your own "not-reading-ness" with your own quote:
PLAYSTATION?Network Continues to Thrive:In North America>, there are over than3.7 million registered PLAYSTATION Network accounts> and more than 67 million pieces of content have been downloaded from PLAYSTATION Store to date.
It's 3.7mln inNorth America>... I'm not in NA (EU as a matter of fact) and I know that the EU install base is quite high, higher in comparison iirc, so it's way above 4mln, the 11mln popisdead uk suggested is probably accurate, though I have no sources to back it up. You need to remember Japan, Europe and everybody else - which in total is quite a lot of people if I managed to pay attention in school. The world does not consist of NA alone as much s some people would like it to!

Learn how to read please, before calling someone else incorrect and whatnot.

As for the GTA4 issue - and everybody else calling PSN slow/instable/whatever - I think it's an isolated issue, I have seen lots of people online, haven't experienced troubles, nor did anyone in my friendslist.

Also; for the record, I download at ~1.4MB/s, yes megabytes per second, from PSN - CONSTANT SPEED. I have never experienced any downtime or trouble connecting that was due to PSN and NOT due to the game itself. Warhawk for example had some server issues in the beginning, which was due to their network code and not due to the PSN being "crap"...

edit; had to edit post to include popisdead uk who stated something, not audioboxer, my bad.

Wow dude, I know it said North America. It's the largest install base/market. Even if you add in Japan and EU, you probably only get to about 5 million, 6 tops. Don't tell me I can't read. I never said I was considering WW numbers since, obviously, there aren't any reliable ones out there for PSN registration.

Lol, thank you Keito for pointing it out, I was typing it up, but it was edging on giving him a piece of my mind, so i just stopped.

Onto to the topic, I haven't had many problems besides today, I was able to get on-line and had real good fun, but it doesn't seem to want me to today.

But I still have a good portion of the story to get through and a whole load of Uni work to do anyway, woe is me.

Actually for the PS3 it goes Europe, America and then Japan for install base :)

However America/Europe are pretty much even (less than a mil difference I believe), Japan is the one that's lagging behind.
