HawkMan
something on the frontpage is causing at least my maxthon browser to use extremely high CPU, over 40-49 on a dual core.so basically it's using almosy 100% of one core. it's not been ike this before and I've deisabled the animated header thing. and the only new thing there is the fancy flashing contest button, so strangely it seems it may be that little thing causing it. Steven P. Administrators Posted May 2, 2008 Administrators Share Posted May 2, 2008 Is it on the forums too? The contest flashing tab only happens the first time you visit the main page ;)
Tikimotel
Here it's waiting on digg.com (frontpage , only main !!, software, game etc. works just fine) A traceroute to digg.com does reveal digg.com is unreachable from my computer.

HawkMan
no it's just on the frontpage. happens in IE8 too, though it goesbetwen 25-35 CPU mostly. Opera just hovers around 2-5, but opera often idles at higher cpu, though it did go to 0 when I closed the neowin tab. FF3 beta goes between 10 to 25 and drops to 0 when I closed the neowin frontpage tab. and are you sure abotu the contest thing only being there the first ime ? I've refreshd multiple times and clicked it, gone back ad refreshed now, and it's still there, still flashing :)

I could test on my main computer too, but I'm too lazy :) on the other hand, I think this thing proved that Opera is indeed the fastest browser, as it was barey afected by this script compared to the others :)

hvy
Site design is causing 100% cpu use for about 10 seconds on loading forum pages using IE6SP2 in XPSP2. Only site I've ever found on the internet that does this. Maybe it is making worse an Internet Explorer rendering issue, but if no other sites do this, I think it could easily be fixed. Didn't used to happen with the old layout.
