Panarchy
Hello! Need to format around 33GB for Knoppix (I will install knoppix there). But there are so many options (In arconis disk director) what format should I format it into? I DEFINITELY need grub (Main reason I'm installing instead of virtualizing it) Please reply, as I need to install it ASAP! Thanks in advance, Panarchy EDIT: These are the options available to me;

4CxbqFxVnstmA Veteran Posted May 4, 2008 Veteran Share Posted May 4, 2008 I use ext3 on my normal laptop. I use ext2 on my Asus eeePC, but that is all solid state. If your hard drive is normal, then go for ext3, I say :D
MR_Candyman
honestly, I prefer reiserfs, but ya, ext3 is what I would recommend to most people

markwolfe Veteran Posted May 4, 2008 Veteran Share Posted May 4, 2008 Don't format for Linux, unless you know what you are doing. Are you formatting for just a root partition? Or are you also creating a /home and maybe a /boot? Perhaps you plan on running a web server and want a separate /var? Any of that sound like partitioning you are after? Oh, and don't forget your swap partition! So, a minimum of two partitions, possibly more.
