LockCrypt is a free account management program which uses high strength AES encryption to encrypt your data, so only you can access it.

You should export your database to XML before upgrading.

Russian, Hungarian and Hebrew translations have been added in this release, and there are a few improvements for LockCrypt Mobile. There's also a notes field which can be enabled for all accounts.

Changes in LockCrypt 1.50:

  • Added: Hebrew translation (Thanks Nir Sh).
  • Added: Hungarian translation (Thanks Attila).
  • Added: Russian translation (Thanks Amegane).
  • Added: HTML Export.
  • Added: Option to obfuscate a field so it appears hidden when viewing an account (Thanks prk59).
  • Added: Option to mark a field as a phone number so the number it contains can be dialed from LockCrypt Mobile (Thanks Toxic-Hero).
  • Added: Notes field for all account types (Thanks prk59).
  • Changed: The location of the last selected database file and export path are now saved, and the same folder is opened on subsequent imports/exports. (Thanks Attila).
  • Changed: Window size and position are now saved when exiting LockCrypt.
  • Changed: Improved support for XML export and international characters.
  • Changed: If an empty password is set, LockCrypt will no longer prompt for it.
  • Changed: All dialogs and forms now use the LockCrypt icon instead of the default Java one.

Changes in LockCrypt Mobile 1.20:

  • Added: 'Click and Call' for fields marked as phone numbers (Thanks Toxic-Hero)
  • Changed: Blank fields are now omitted (Thanks Herder).
  • Changed: If a blank password is set, a prompt will no longer be shown.
Updated compatibility to display notes field (LockCrypt 1.50+).

LockCrypt Mobile, a J2ME version is also available. It allows you to carry your account database with you on any Java enabled mobile device.

TrueCrypt ( http://www.truecrypt.org/ ) is what i would recommend for general data encryption and even whole drive encryption ;)

Thanks, but this isn't about drive encryption, it's an account management program. ;)

Why in the world would you want to export your list of passwords as HTML?!

I have absolutely no idea, but text file and HTML export have both been requested. CSV support is something I added to let people export data to other programs, I've never needed to use it myself.

I'm happy with KeePass. Plus, it's OSS. What's LockCrypt have that KP doesn't?

Better Icons and from the looks a more simple interface. But is it portable?? I see they have a Jar file. Updates to any software is always welcome.

well if it's just a password management program i would recommend the open source program called 'Password Safe' ( http://passwordsafe.sourceforge.net/ ) ( Bruce Schneier recommends it as it 's listed on his site here. ( http://www.schneier.com/passsafe.html ) )

quote from site... "Password Safe protects passwords with the Twofish encryption algorithm, a fast, free alternative to DES. The program's security has been thoroughly verified by Counterpane Labs under the supervision of Bruce Schneier, author of Applied Cryptography and creator of the Twofish algorithm."

at east he's not biased then :)

though, unless you keep te app on a memory stick you probably don't need the program itself to encrypt the data anyways.

better GUI ?

Thanks :)

In this release, I've added an optional command line argument which allows you to use any file path as a database. Just specify it after LockCrypt.exe/.jar

  • 4 weeks later...

This looks like good software but there's something I don't like. The look and feel... I believe this is probably because of LockCrypt is coded in Java. All I'm saying is that I like my applications to fit as much as possible as in the OS I'm using, in this case, Vista. That's the only reason I'm going to keep using KeePass for now, although LockCrypt looks better...

However, if you do nay progress in the feature to make it fit in Vista, I wouldn't mind and probably would, care more about LockCrypt tha I currently do with KeePass.

Just my 2 cents. :)

But there's nothing wrong with Java applications. Do you have a vendetta against them? There's no way I could re-code everything just because you don't like Java. Sorry.

You're missing the point... I didn't ask you to recode everything in a different language, that's not what I've said. But yes, I don't like Java applications, I don't have a vendetta against them but I don't like them mostly because they never fit into the Windows look and feel. Another reason is cause they normally use more resources than other applications, but that's not the main reason like I already said...

I always try to avoid Java applications whenever I can because they just don't fit into the Windows look and feel. I'm just talking about the applications interface... Look at the buttons/splitbuttons, dropdowns, textboxes, tabs, etc... They don't look at all with Vista, not event XP. Heck, they don't even look like any other OS out there, they just have their own look and I'm not saying it's good or bad, I'm just saying it doesn't fit into the OS look.

I just hate applications that don't fit into the OS look and Java applications are the most common with that problem. I don't know much about Java, I've only started to learn it this year in the university but there most be a way or some library (something...) that you could use to draw all those controls using the OS look...

It's just a suggestion, you take it or leave it... I'm just one person stating what I dislike about the application and why I don't even consider using it, maybe there are others that share my opinion or maybe there aren't. Do as you please :)

Thanks for the input. LockCryot already uses a custom look and feel library to make it look a bit nicer. I'll look into a different UI for it, maybe other users feel the same way.

I wouldn't have thought you'd have been bothered by something such as look and feel though Nazgulled, I thought you were a developer yourself.

Yes, I am a developer but I am also a webdesigner (less and less these days) but I don't think that means anything... I'm a developer that likes pretty things, with nice, beautiful and modern interfaces. Every time I look for new software for something I need, the look and feel plays a major part in deciding the software I'm going to get. If I'm using something that I'm going to see everyday, I want it to look nice, see what I mean? It's how I am and what I think though, I know there are lots of people that just don't care how something looks, but I do...

Anyway, just to make it clear... I'm not saying to make a different UI, the UI looks fine, honestly... In fact, your application caught my attention because it looked good and I really liked the interface against the KeePass one (which I'm currently using). The only tiny problem in your application (for me) is the controls that are custom drawn, I like the applications to fit into Vista (cause that's the OS I use) and the controls on your application do not fit...

The interface is pretty nice though, don't change that... At least for now lol, I haven't really tested the application so I cannot say I don't have any other suggestions to make... Maybe in the future...

Unfortunately, UI sells these days and if it's intuitive, it makes you want to use it over and over :)

But of course, if the functionality doesn't back it up, then it's useless :)

I'm using LockCrypt at the moment. It's pretty handy! Love the standalone file

I am the same way. Look and feel is always important because it brings a nice polish, professional feel to the app. Workflow is very important too. It sounds like you think the workflow and layout is good for LockCrypt, just needs the extra polish to blend in more. Right?

Thanks for the suggestions. I've been looking into the native OS look'n'feels which come with Java, and they seem to blend in a lot better.

In the next release, I hope to include an option to switch between the Java look'n'feel for your specific OS and the current (JGoodies) look'n'feel.

Version 1.55 has been released, and features a changeable skin. Options are JGoodies (the current look and feel), the cross platform Java look and feel or the specific look and feel of the operating system you're using. :)

    • This is not surprising of course and I stopped using Chrome years ago.
    • It's not that we have to many ads? WTF? LOL
    • I switched to AdGuard for this very reason. All my uBlock filters and user scripts ported over with no issues.
    • This is a hot take, but I only use "New" Outlook for 1 reason, the "My Day" side bar that shows your tasks and Calendar on "New" Outlook allows you to view shared calendars and not just your personal calendar. On "Classic" Outlook it only allows your personal Calendar. For my job, we have a group shared Calendar that shows appointments and scheduled tasks for the team and we don't really use our personal calendars.
    • Opera for Android gets redesigned home page with FIFA World Cup tracker by Taras Buria FIFA World Cup 2026 is kicking off in the United States later this week, and Opera, a popular cross-platform browser, is making it easier to track matches on mobile. Today, Opera announced a redesigned home page for its Android browser. The new home page is now "more immersive" with easier access to common browser features. Users can now customize Speed Dial icons (round, square, or squircle), enjoy a new weather widget with real-time conditions, and open AI Mode or a private session with a single tap. Additionally, the browser now has a built-in football tracker, allowing you to follow your favorite team without using dedicated apps. The tracker displays live scores, notifications, and statistics in a dedicated football hub. You can also check out line-ups, match events, and more. Opera surveyed its users, and 38% of responders said they plan to follow the FIFA World Cup 2026 in a browser. The tournament starts on June 11 and ends on July 19, 2026. "By providing football fans with instant access to live scores alongside a more considered design, we’re ensuring they are never more than a tap away from the action, even when they can't watch live," said Tim Lesnik, Product Manager at Opera Mobile. For Opera users in the United States, Opera runs a contest, offering them a chance to win tickets to a match in Miami in July, Android smartphones, PlayStation 5 consoles, smart TVs, and Amazon Vouchers. Users can participate by posting on social media with the #OperaFandom hashtag from June 12 or by signing up on the official Opera website. Opera will announce winners on July 3. You can download Opera for Android from the Google Play Store using this link.
