pawn3d
please make a "Business & Legal" forum for computer industry professionals. For threads like this: https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=636743 and this: https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=636770 and so on... thanks :)
kylejn
Why? I don't think there are enough threads that fall under that category such that a separate forum is warranted.
Colin-uk Veteran Posted May 14, 2008 Veteran Share Posted May 14, 2008 Yeah, there isnt really enough threads to need a new section for it, General discussion is fine for now, imo :)
maplecookie Veteran Posted May 14, 2008 Veteran Share Posted May 14, 2008 There are not enough threads for a subsection like that. Just put them in GD. TADA!
S_Herbie
Both of those threads seem to fit well in General Discussion...
Fred Derf Veteran Posted May 14, 2008 Veteran Share Posted May 14, 2008 I am wary about Neowin legitimizing legal or medical advice. If you have legal issues then you should consult a lawyer/solicitor. If you have medical issues then you should consult a doctor or a nurse. I do not mind the occasional thread because it could be a useful tool to gather knowledge before your appointment with a professional. It may help you formulate more intelligent questions so as to not waste their time and your money. However, I do not believe that Neowin should be a place to go instead of contacting a professional. +Gary7 Subscriber² Posted May 14, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted May 14, 2008 There is not a need for a new forum and what Fred said makes a great deal of sense. Neowin does not want Lawyers involved.

pawn3d
I have to deal with this kind of argument with everybody, until they see the light. and i know forums like no one in the world... if it seems like their are a lack of business thread, what get's me is how communities is so afraid to try out something new. it's not hard to create a new forum. (one simply logs into the admincp and clicks create new forum and give it a name and the correct posting permissions.) if it doesn't fly in a couple weeks, delete it. If it seems there is a lack of business threads- i say because there's a lack of business forums. take me as your average user: i wanted to start some computer shop threads here a week or so ago, but i couldn't find a forum, so i didn't do it. but just yesterday, i decided what the hell and made some anyway. now, most users will not go out of their way to push the issue, they'll just leave and post somewhere else. but i am a season pro in community sites and i say: "if you build it, he will come." if you do not supply a demand, you will give away that market share to another site- because somebody is going to do it... i shouldn't have to sell anyone on anything. you should already see change as a positive step towards growth and no a negative one. instead of immediately saying "no, that work work", play devil's advocate and see how it will work. in a few seconds i thought of topics covering jobs, training & certifications, finding clients, opening a shop, to to mention buying & selling as sales, sales, sales is what puts food on our tables. if there is not a strong interest in money... what the hell are we doing? learning about computers so we can fix them for free? Yeah, there isnt really enough threads to need a new section for it, General discussion is fine for now, imo :) let me know how many business topics will merit a new forum and i will find them here and post the links in this thread. Coldgunner
we're a hobbyists site, if we wish to run a business the kind of advice you need is professional. should the worst happen a user could hold neowin responsible for bad advice. I believe the mods have spoken on this issue, and rightly so.

Colin-uk Veteran Posted May 14, 2008 Veteran Share Posted May 14, 2008 what the hell are we doing? learning about computers so we can fix them for free? no, were learning about computers so that we dont have to pay someone else to do it for us :) let me know how many business topics will merit a new forum and i will find them here and post the links in this thread. I would imagine it would be around 50 - 100, but dont quote me on that as its not set in stone.

Don?t' tell him, he will start posting some crap hundred time and start bitching about creating a sub forum. And pawn3d just post in general discussion, it?s not that hard is it. And I know it?s not hard for mods to create another sub forum but theirs isn?t a need for it. Really I haven?t seen any threads asking for business advice (and really you want business advice from a news forum). And if you?re so experienced why don?t you create your own forum and make all the sub forum you need.

Using the somewhat recently added Science forum as a guide, I would assume that you would need to have about 30 posts per month. Finding 50-100 posts over the last few years will not really be that helpful.

Yeah i should have said recent posts really, I was using the opera forum as a guide that was added after an influx of posts after the browser went free. After all, if we started having all these forums and sub-forums made then there wouldn't be need for the 'General Discussion' forum would there ;)
