GStreamer in Ubuntu

Recommended Posts

I got Ubuntu 8.04 installed yesterday, and when I attempted to play an MP3, I get a message telling me that I need to download a codec. It's not possible for me to get the computer Ubuntu is installed on, connected to the internet.

I've searched for some time, but I can't find any downloads for GStreamer or Medibuntu that I can copy to a flash drive and install in Ubuntu, can anyone help me with this?

Nevermind, I managed to get all the packages downloaded and installed, I just hunted down the gstreamer-ugly and gstreamer-ffmpeg packages with all the dependencies.

Thanks anyway :D

It is easy to get all sorts of codecs on your Ubuntu.

You can go here: Shift's recs for instructions. BUT, where you see the text 'gutsy', just change it to 'hardy' (as you are using Hardy Heron--if you are using Intrepid Ibex, use 'intrepid').

Ubuntu is, like so many Linux distros out there, massively easy to get going.

This is not too hard to install codec. Just with a few minutes you can install all your codec & plugins.

Just have a look here http://ubuntu-help.co.cc/index.php/ubuntu-...pport-on-ubuntu

Thanks for the replies, but I've since managed to get full MP3/AAC/etc. support in ubuntu. :)

Anyone else replying to this noticed that this thread is dated from "May 17 2008, 22:06"?

I wondered if people had noticed that :p

Thought this thread would've been locked by now
