randomnut
Hey, I guess this would be the most appropriate forum for this. What's the performance like with Linux on the PS3? I am looking to install Linux (Opensuse) and hopefully use it as a media center to play high def files. Is this worth trying, i've read the performance is rather poor? Can anyone offer any suggestions of how to achieve a PS3 media center? thanks
popisdead uk
TVersity is a far better way, but its streaming the HD files. Until the PS3 supports mkv files its really the only way.

There are linux MKV codecs so I assume you can play HD Mkv files with linux installed?

Digitalx
under linux ps3 is rectricted to low amoutn of video/graphics acceleration and doesn't have provide full potential of RSX. In short stick with standard factory ps3 software or get tversity or likewise program to do network streaming as there's no gain made by running linux for media purpose there's more lost then gained. linux on ps3 is only good for those wishing to experiment with cell processor and it's abilities and capabilities of ps3s hardware.
