jebus197
Hi as you can see in this image I have no kicker/taskbar in my install of KDE4. One minute it was there and the next after a reboot it was gone. Does anyone even know what the new kicker is called and what the command is to launch it so that at least perhaps I might be able to launch it from the CLI and try to generate some errors? Thanks. jebus197
Erm... what? Sorry, but that is kind of the first thing I did.
Elv13
Kicker and kdesktop have been replaced by plasma, the panel is now called "plasma panel". To try to restore it, delete (or rename if you dont want to lose your settings forever) the .kde4 and .kde folder of your home directory.
jebus197
Hi what is the new Kmenu called - and what is the command to launch it? I know it used to be called Kickoff - but what's it called now? Can it be used in Gnome - and if so how? Thanks.
Elv13
The default one for kde4.0 is kickoff because raptor is not ready (not even writen in fact). You can switch to "classic" kmenu like menu by right clicking on it. In KDE 4.1 you can also get a gnome-like menu. I dont know if their is a shortcut to launch it, but it is alt+F2 (or is it alt+shift+f2?) to launch krunner.
jebus197
No I just want the actual physical command instruction to open a new instance of kickoff in KDE 4 if anyone might know it? I don't want to switch to the classic menu and I don't need any keyboard shortcuts to launch it. But thanks!
-JMC-
I had exactly the same problem as the original poster. Are you using Fedora 9? Its a shame cause I found no way of getting it back so I turned back to Gnome. So what is the solution? What program do you need to run to bring the menu back? What is the Kmenu actually called now? There seems to be a little confusion around that.
