C++
So I am one of the lucky few people who have managed to earn themselves a restricted member group. Apparently the Mac community on this forum is a real sensitive bunch... Anyway, now whenever I try to access Apple-related topics I get a red board message in place of the content. This is stupid, because I can still view the content as long as I log out. So, can the development team here save me the hassle of logging in and out, and simply hide the post box from restricted members, instead of whole pages? Of course, if no such option is built into IPB, let me know if you coders need some help writing that scary If statement...

Popcorned1
Bah, don't worry about man. Mac people are a bunch of zealots anyway. More things in life to worry about.

You are restricted from writing anything, nothing stops you from reading everything.
C++
Bah, don't worry about man. Mac people are a bunch of zealots anyway. More things in life to worry about. I don't need to talk to them, not asking for the restricted to be lifted or anything. Just sick of having to log out whenever I see an Apple news title and want to read it. You are restricted from writing anything, nothing stops you from reading everything. I am too restricted from reading, that's why I posted about it. +jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted June 5, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted June 5, 2008 I don't think theres anything you can do about it. It's not a case of them having to edit the code, they've specifically created the usergroup that way (They could change it so you can still read and not reply... But for whatever reason they haven't).
DaveLegg Developer Posted June 5, 2008 Developer Share Posted June 5, 2008 Of course, if no such option is built into IPB, let me know if you coders need some help writing that scary If statement... Thanks for the insult, that's sure to get us to do something for you. As jamesyfx says, the group permissions have separate checkboxes for 'read' 'reply' etc, so it was set up this way on purpose. Wannes
I know, but YOU try telling those Mac people that! I'd hate to burst your bubble but I'm a Mac user as well and I post actively in that section. Am I now another ignorant Mac "person"? I don't want this to turn into a flame thread nor do I want that to happen anywhere else but I don't like the way you treat people the same. Mac people don't exist. Every person is unique in their own little aspect. I agree that the x86 change brought up a lot of discussion but that's normal. Adjustment can be hard to swallow. Why is this so different? There have been a lot of discussions in the Mac subsection discussing this and I'm sure that, since you have a restriction, you will have participated in it. Once again, I don't want to start a flame war neither do I want to hear insults flying around my ears, I only want to clarify that your generalisation is a little far fetched. maplecookie Veteran Posted June 5, 2008 Veteran Share Posted June 5, 2008 We want those who are restricted to stay out of those groups. You don't need to read it, and you don't need to reply to it. If you'd like to log out and do so, that's fine as it's well within your right. Currently we have no plans on changing this allowing reading within restricted areas. Bryan R.
It a wonder why you have been restricted...Perhaps it has been determined that you do not provide constructive thoughts in that area of the forum. Perhaps it should be a lesson to you that you need tone down your dislike of Mac's and their users. You should have no reason to read anything on the subject of Macs; you obviously dislike them and take every chance to show it.

Considering how long Neowin "Shift" took, I figured a little reverse psychology wouldn't hurt in the event that it did require coding.

Wow, you really do just have a sparkling personality. :p I'd suggest if you have further matters regarding this to address, aside from attempting to enflame people, you may wish to simply contact a Mod/Dev/Admin directly as it may be more appropriate. Seems to me you are arrogant enough that I would restrict you from more than just the Mac sections.

I said "Mac people" because I can't be bothered to make my posts twice as long as they should be for the sake of political corectness about which no one genuinly gives a crap anyway. Enough time is spent clinging on to that garbage without me adding it to my own posts. Look at the size of your own post I just quoted. Is it really worth it? Are you, or anyone, genuinly offended because someone made a negative remark about something you're involved in, without mention that there are exceptions to every rule? And a stinking computer platform discussion, too? If this is the case, you should choose your battles better friend. Might want to focus on, you know... Cases where someone actually actually acuses YOU, of something at least somewhat IMPORTANT. And God dammit. Once again political corectness has lengthened a discussion well beyond the size it should be. I honestly feel liking hitting the Back button instead of Post... Bryan R.
I honestly feel liking hitting the Back button instead of Post... But you didn't. Hence you have retricted access now, something should tell you that you have an attitude that you need to control.

shakey_snake
Is it not your complete lack of couth that has in reality lengthened the discussion?
maplecookie Veteran Posted June 5, 2008 Veteran Share Posted June 5, 2008 Okay, so since we've made our position clear regarding the reading of forums while under a restriction, I'm closing this before everyone starts going too far. C++, if you have further questions or concerns please send a PM to a Super here on Neowin and they will be able to assist you.
