Wannes
I think everyone agrees with me that images, especially large ones, in quotes are a real bugger. Could the coders not write a sort of code to resolve this? So when I, for example, quote a post with an image the tags get removed. That way the image file became a hyperlink. Maybe you could do it when an image is larger than lets say 350x350 or so. Just a suggestion.
+shift. MVC Posted June 10, 2008 MVC Share Posted June 10, 2008 Sounds like a good idea. Or people could just stop quoting huge images :p
CrashG
I usually just snip the image out, but that takes a couple extra seconds and some forethought.
Fred Derf Veteran Posted June 10, 2008 Veteran Share Posted June 10, 2008 Yeah, I snip the images out or remove the [/img] tags so it shows up as a simple link. If there was an automatic way to prevent the (re)display of images then I think we should consider that. Once is enough. Yes, people could do it manually but not everyone is as considerate as others would be. Plus, some peeps are n00bs. :p
+shift. MVC Posted June 10, 2008 MVC Share Posted June 10, 2008 Should really pin a guide on how to properly quote images, long walls of text etc. at the top of each forum! Haha
Joel
I think it used to be a choice in the 1.x IPB line (admin choice, that is). Dunno why they removed it.

+shift. MVC Posted June 10, 2008 MVC Share Posted June 10, 2008 True, but if it's there then there's no reason for not knowing how to quote properly! :)

It would be cool if developers could write such code and I think it won't take long to write but don't quote me on that.

When I reply to someone that does have an Image for a signature, that sig image is not on my reply. It is parsed. If it can be done with sig images , I don't see why it can't be done with all types of images. But I am not a developer so mabe I'm wrong?? Antaris Veteran Posted June 10, 2008 Veteran Share Posted June 10, 2008 Well, I did put together a thumbnailing service (see original thread), which people largely ignored. This would somewhat help the situation. When I reply to someone that does have an Image for a signature, that sig image is not on my reply. It is parsed. If it can be done with sig images , I don't see why it can't be done with all types of images. But I am not a developer so mabe I'm wrong?? The signature is not stored in the message, it is separate content which is rendered after the post. When you do a quote, it is reading the content of a post, no the signature. All I am saying that it is possible to block images from a reply. One can also change their profile not to view images. If that is a choice that can be made, then there has to be a way of blocking them in a reply automatically , IMO. I think your idea is a good one.
