Barney T. Administrators Posted June 8, 2008 Administrators Share Posted June 8, 2008 We had a really successful meeting last Saturday (06/07/08). I just wanted to update everyone on what we decided to do so far: 1) The group as a whole decided that 3 distros separately was not a good option at this time. The group census was to look at having one DVD version with the option to install whatever DM the user chooses. In addition, we also decided that we should offer a "lite" version (Flux) for those who have computers that could not handle the DVD version. 2) Kitch is going to research the complexities of creating this DVD and report back to the group. The rest of us will hold on further developments until we hear from him. 3) bmaher and Simon360 are going to develop a Shift project development tool to assist us with our phases of the project. 4) Max and Cosmin will be working on the wallpaper and bootscreen. Mark Jensen was in need of us getting these out so he can brand his version of Shift Flux (yay Mark)! 5) Ste has said that he will provide apps and scripts as needed (he is great with Java too). So, we will all convene soon, once we hear from Kitch. Thanks to all for a great meeting!

Brian M. Veteran Posted June 14, 2008 Veteran Share Posted June 14, 2008 I believe Simon et moi are going to start the tool on Monday, and given that my last exam is Tuesday, it should be done by next weekend-ish. Just need to grab the framework and stuff off of Dave. I haven't touched the KDE version of Shift since our last meeting, as like Mark, there was no real point doing anything until we know which direction we're taking it in. Commodore Max
Working on some ideas to refine the Shift image. Will get in touch with Cosmin to coordinate all this. Cosmin: Got MSN ?
Brian M. Veteran Posted June 14, 2008 Veteran Share Posted June 14, 2008 Right, the management system is coming along ok at the moment - I just need to set it up so it gives everyone the correct permissions depending on their usergroup. Do these permissions sound OK? Staff: System Admin, can adminster users, can administer projects, tasks, milestones etc etc. Can assign users members to projects. Non Staff Developers: Can administer projects, tasks, milestones etc etc. Can assign themselves to projects. Other Members: Can view projects, task lists and milestones with read-only access, and can comment on them. Banned/Restricted: No entry zone. The way I'm hoping to set it up is to use the Neowin External Login Tool. The first time a user logs into it, it creates an account automatically based on what the NELT gives (the account with be for the system only and they'll still login with the NELT - it will check for group changes on login). This should automatically give staff members the required permissions. We will also be able to add/remove individual permissions for each person without having to change any of their member details here, so we can promote a registered member to a developer on shift with them remaining as registered on here. Similarly, if a staff member wanted no access, we could remove their permissions. I've been playing around with it for about half an hour now, and while it sounds complicated, it is actually really easy to use. I'll try to get the NELT integrated tomorrrow (I have a feeling it's going to be slightly tricky as it has about 10 or so different login functions hiding in different classes (and whoever coded this system wasn't very good at commenting :p)). Barney T. Administrators Posted June 15, 2008 Author Administrators Share Posted June 15, 2008 Ok... haven't heard from Kitch yet, but let's plan on an IRC meeting on the 21st of June (Saturday) at 12 noon EDT. If you have more developments, post them here.
Brian M. Veteran Posted June 15, 2008 Veteran Share Posted June 15, 2008 (edited) Quick update: I've integrated the management system with the NELT (to a point where anyone can login, it automatically gives members the correct permissions etc) - but I haven't written any custom features for it yet. Any staff member can give/remove any permissions to/from any member. Temp Install:http://bma-uk.co.uk/shift/projectpier-0.8.0.2 <-- if anyone wants to have a look around and let me know if any features need adding, how useable it is etc etc. Edited June 15, 2008 by bmaher
