Tobey
These days I tried to update the memory from 256m ddr333 to 1G ddr400 on an old laptop with intel 845g chipset. It takes about 15 mins from power on to logging into desktop, and runs slower, especially when I try to open applications in ubuntu 8.04. But I haven't found any problem like this in windows (xp within sp3). And it's confirmed to be a memory problem since the system runs normally when I switch back to 256m ddr333. PS: I tried fedora 9 kde live cd, no slowing down. Could anybody offer me some clue?
markwolfe Veteran Posted June 12, 2008 Veteran Share Posted June 12, 2008 That is just plain weird. Tell you what, I had a strange problem with incredibly (like 1/100th speed) operation in Fedora 64 bit that I didn't have in 32-bit or with Ubuntu. My solution: don't use the distro with the issue, and use one that just worked. ;) For you, maybe it means using Fedora?
Tobey
Hi, thanks for your reply. Maybe I should. But I'm just so familiar to ubuntu. Anyway, I'm still happy to try others.
