thealexweb
I was just looking at Fedora 9 and it's interface looks very similar to Ubuntu's. Is one based on another, if so which one? Thanks.
richter
They both use GNOME desktop by default, hence the similar look. http://www.gnome.org/ They are different distributions. Ubuntu is based on Debian while Fedora is RPM based and more similar to openSUSE, Mandriva... Edited June 18, 2008 by richter
Berserk87
i would say ubuntu. im using fedora and i like it, but it definitively has a learning curve. ive also used ubuntu, i would say its more 'user friendly'
ViperAFK
I have used the latest fedora 9 and Ubuntu 8.04, Fedora has some more bleeding edge packages but didn't feel nearly as polished or as easy to use as ubuntu.
kyro
Fedora, bleeding edge distro for experienced users :) now you dont want to stay n00b forever do you?
markwolfe Veteran Posted June 21, 2008 Veteran Share Posted June 21, 2008 I have (and will) always have a place in my heart for Red Hat & Fedora. I cut my teeth on them when I first tried Linux. I used them for over 5 years solid. I was very accustomed to their way of doing things, and their tools. However, I left Fedora for Ubuntu a few months ago, and although there are some minor pros and cons in the change, I haven't regretted it. Both are good. One may be a little closer in what you prefer than the other, but we won't be able to help you with that. You will have to figure that out for yourself by trying one or both. dmd3x
Fedora, bleeding edge distro for experienced users :) now you dont want to stay n00b forever do you? Haha... I recently decided that I liked Fedora better for a graphical distro. However, Ubuntu Satanic looks really cool... then again you could load the Ubuntu Satanic interface into Fedora.
