shakey_snake
In the Web Browser Discussion forum, there is a very clear anti-trolling policy. Can't this policy be implemented site-wide? The quality of replies to browser related topics in Breaking News and on the Main Page has always been abysmal, but this has really been highlighted over the last couple of days with the releases of Firefox 3 and Opera 9.5. markwolfe Veteran Posted June 19, 2008 Veteran Share Posted June 19, 2008 It happens on Apple news. Linux news. Vista news. Xbox news. PS3 news. McCain news. Obama news. US news. Programming language news... You get the point. ;) Report posts that are over-the-top in trolling/flaming/flame-baiting/etc. It's about all that can be done. The staff will take appropriate action, up to restricting repeat offenders from certain areas, or a temporary suspension of account, or even a ban if that is required. I would expect us to look down upon browser trolling regardless of what subforum it is in. Just because we mention it within the Web Browser Discussion doesn't mean that it doesn't apply site-wide. Our Community Rules contain language about staying on topic and about avoiding making flame-bait comments.
Wannes
It happens everywhere but quite actually, compared to a few years back, the trolling has significantly decreased.
portauthority
Yeah, it's all Vista and Republican bashing anyways. Haven't seen much of "IE SUX F$G" posts lately
Denis W. Veteran Posted June 21, 2008 Veteran Share Posted June 21, 2008 Give it time and it'll quiet down. It peaks on release of a new IE beta, new Safari versions/bugs/flaws (because some people love picking on Apple, eh?) and new Firefox versions. And of course what happened this past week... whew. Personally, in my humble opinion, moderation is very effective on forums. News comment sections, not so much sadly. The report tool implemented into the news commenting system has helped, but generally the 'toxic' users (as so described by Frogboy) troll in the news comment area and get away with it half the time. Joel
Take the time to report it and someone WILL look into it. We can't be everywhere at once, so reports help a lot.
