Klethron
Hey Gang, Ive been a member of the board a while and I just got a second machine so I could get back into the Linux scene. I am a graphics designer by trade and I am all about the eye candy. But I am all about the features as well. So here is your chance to pass on your experience. I want to install a Linux distro that is UBER sexy right outta the box. Any suggestions?
markwolfe Veteran Posted June 30, 2008 Veteran Share Posted June 30, 2008 Since looks are so easily changed (install KDE/XFCE/Openbox/whatever) and select whatever theme you like, I am of the opinion that "out of the box" means nothing. Many people think Gnome looks better than KDE, so I would recommend a Gnome-based distro. One that has a pretty default. Maybe Ubuntu or SUSE? Fedora, if its looks appeal to you. But, like I said defaults are transient, and are changed with a mere couple of clicks.
zhangm Supervisor Posted June 30, 2008 Supervisor Share Posted June 30, 2008 I've used Ubuntu, Fedora, and LinuxMint. I quite like Mint, but its true, the degree of customization allows you to make anything look like anything else.
MR_Candyman
personally, I think gnome looks it's age...and the graphics really haven't changed for a long, long time. KDe is much prettier. I also like Fluxbox, but it's very minimalist. But ya, the customization is really good, so really, make it how you want.

redvamp128
What are the specs on the second machine. I mean that could determine a little more on what version of linux you would choose. I have an older machine with Puppy Linux installed on it running XFCE-4. I know but what Else would you run on a machine that has a 133 mhz processor and 128mb of memory and a 10 gig hard drive . With onboard Video/Sound and NIC.
OmART
i'd say ubuntu studio. Another vote for ubuntu studio! :D (out of the box) ... but ... long live to customization anyway.
zerologic
+1 For Ubuntu 8.04  Very nice to look at, great customizations and super powerful for a desktop Linux.
PrimoTurbo
Have a look at Dreamlinux, I find that it has a very smooth theme and icons. It tries to mimic OSX a lot.
dmd3x
UBUNTU SATANIC EDITION! - Not my favorite distro, but best looking in my opinion by far. It looks like it was brilliantly and demonicly crafted in the burning fires of hell. Very cool...

4CxbqFxVnstmA Veteran Posted June 30, 2008 Veteran Share Posted June 30, 2008 I agree with those who say it is easy to customise. I do it automatically with Ubuntu. But here is a site that has lots of screenshots organised by distro, so you can see: http://www.thecodingstudio.com/opensource/...shots/index.php
