.Kompressor
You know like what Macrumors.com has done.... This way everyone sees all discussions on the breaking news. so those news items on the frontpage will show up in the "Breaking News" forum i suppose but with maybe an icon next to it idicating it's on the main page. so those viewing the news post in the forum would know the article on the frontpage by it's unique icon. also everyone get to read all the posts in 1 thread rather than 1 on frontpage and 1 in forum about the same article. I know this is possible with vBulletin portal script but its possible there's one for invision board.
DaveLegg Developer Posted July 3, 2008 Developer Share Posted July 3, 2008 We do have the ability to do this, but it requires the newsposter to find the existing forum thread in order to promote it to the front page. This is not always possible / sometimes the thread is created after the front page story, as not all members check the front page all the time
FiB3R
So you're saying get rid of the commenting on front page posts, and just link straight to the forum? And the same for Software and Gamers?
.Kompressor
@ DarkFib3r - yes that would be the same situation. @ DaveLegg - what if something gets posted in forum first and is validated with sources....then it would be easier for you guys to just check an option next to the thead and make it appear on the specific frontpage it belongs too...games, tech news, software. and the icon would change in the forum to show it has made it to the frontpage games, tech, or software section. I think it would save you guys alot of moderating stuff, and you guys made the decisions on whether it should be on the front page with the check of a box or something. :) I think thats the way forums/portals should be going in the future. For us to link a forum post to the front page, it is as simple as entering the topic ID into our News CP, however, there are a range of reasons this doesn't always happen, for example, the news poster won't always have the time to browse through the forums to see if there is a thread on the topic already (It wont always be in BPN, especially gaming stories, which tend to be in the gaming forums, not bpn), or the difference between forum formatting of stories and front page formatting is so different that it is quicker just to write a new story themselves than fix up an existing forum post to match the front-page criteria. Chad
What about the FPN/BPN item creating it's own thread in the forums for commenting, like macrumors or ars does. I'd think that would be easier than the news-poster having to search for a similar topic.
