'Body Of Christ' Snatched From Church, Held Hostage By UCF Student

This is my roommate lol Well he was until I thought he was weird and have been staying at my friends' who is out of town. I'm glad I did.

http://www.wftv.com/news/16798008/detail.html

The Eucharist is a small bread wafer blessed by a priest. According to Catholics, the wafer becomes the Body of Christ once blessed and is to be consumed immediately after a minister passes it out to churchgoers.

Cook claims he planned to consume it, but first wanted to show it to a fellow student senator he brought to Mass who was curious about the Catholic faith.

"When I received the Eucharist, my intention was to bring it back to my seat to show him," Cook said. "I took about three steps from the woman distributing the Eucharist and someone grabbed the inside of my elbow and blocked the path in front of me. At that point I put it in my mouth so they'd leave me alone and I went back to my seat and I removed it from my mouth."

He wouldn't dare smear peanut butter on it first?! Or maybe some canned spray cheese? I'd eat it under hostage surveillance in any circumstance. This is awesome, he can be my roommate :p

According to Catholics and many Anglicans, these wafers become the Body of Christ after being blessed. They cease to be a 'wafer' at that point.

So you'd beat somebody up for not eating a wafer.

It's his sin for doing this, but I think some people are acting a bit extreme. While it is the body of Christ, I think it ceases to be valid once it is defamed. Certainly not a cause for hupbla.

You're acting childish at best. Lets not judge the beliefs of others.

So either its a wafer, or its cannibalism.

Just get 2 and bring a slice of ham, and you have lunch. j/k.

(BTW, I'm catholic and went to church school, so I humbly respect the body of christ, but people nowadays don't have respect or dignity for anything.)

I've heard of stories in elementary school of fellow students spitting out the Eucharist and dementing it during school Mass. Of course they were kids back then, but anyways...

Clearly this guy's being an ass for causing trouble for no reason.

So either its a wafer, or its cannibalism.

You're treading on a whole other subject. Thus about this student, not your quirky comments about the theories of other religions.

It starts out as a wafer (?5 for a box of 500 or something). It is transubstantiated into the Body of Christ (God made Man). Call it cannibalism if you like. Maybe vampirism also for the wine, which becomes His Blood. Doesn't change the fact that people who believe take these things seriously. Sometimes they get a bit rough, as in this case.

why not? because they're too flimsy to hold up to reason? don't you think you're insulting the people who believe that stuff? "oh I know better, but these people, they need to cling on to their beliefs so we shouldn't criticize them!"

It's just considered disrespectful (some would say blasphemous). Christ would surely have no trouble forgiving him but it looks like it's harder for the churchgoers to let it slide. ;)

tssss... religions...

Of all the religious fanatics who try to force their religions on others, atheists are the worst.

Yes, thank god that you're placing yourself above those darn atheists.

Because "that stuff" is relevant to over a billion people. This is about a college student misusing the Eucharist, not about bashing religions.

Well it's okay now, this thread is pretty much over.

I'm not placing myself above anyone. I figured since everyone here is make their opinions know, I might as well too. But I suppose it's wrong because I am a person of faith, and have faith in a religion is absolutely wrong and ruins the world, so I'm not entitled to opinions. :)
