Regular trolling in EVERY Vista Support thread

Recommended Posts

In virtually every thread in the Vista support forum, there are always several replies that do nothing but blast Vista, recommend the user switch back to XP, etc., all without helping the OP in any way shape or form.

Unless the OP has made any indication that they want to switch to XP (A question which obviously would then belong in the XP forum), or is asking about operating systems in general, can we get some kind of policy to stop this trolling? It contributes nothing to the question at hand, and makes the forum more difficult to search for answers in down the road.

QTF. Its time to get off the Vista-hate bandwagon kiddies. No one cares what you think. Vista had a troubled birth but its here now. So live with it.

....honestly

i just like to think of it as being potentially good advice since not everybody has a smooth ride with vista specially if it comes OEM or along those lines

+1 for this idea. I assume that my thread may have inspired a fraction of your thinking on this idea :)

Your thread has to do with OSes in general. You asked if Vista was your only option, and obviously suggestion of other OSes might be relevant.

I'm just saying that if it's a Vista support question, "Vista sucks, use XP", etc. is completely irrelevant and counterproductive to the forum.

It's not just Vista threads, *every* support thread has quite a few junk replies like "maybe ccleaner will fix it". I can name atleast a couple of people who just have to poke their noses in every support thread (just to increase post count?) and not be of any real help to the O.P., and at times, even mislead the O.P.

Neowin needs some serious quality control.

ahah once i saw the title of this thread i knew it was you :p

the problem is how the mods would enforce it. we could report them for trolling(?), but do the mods really want to go through all that? do the mods even see it as a problem in the first place?

i'm worried because it really does degrade the quality of the support forums. not just Vista either, in all support threads, somehow one or two guys always manage to pop in just to say a bunch of uninformed crap that doesn't help the OP in any way and only confuses them

That's the equivalent of somebody having a problem with their OEM car stereo, and the solution being to switch the stereo with a different model rather than explaining a fix for the particular problem.

If you don't report, most likely nothing will happen unless we see it. If you do report and nothing you expected to happen happens, then it wasn't as bad as you thought in the first place. Threads like these are basically rants, because the system is already set up for you to make the difference. Use it.

Some of you seem like you're shocked that this kind of thing is going on. People will bitch about anything and everything these days. So where's the surprise? As you've said, Vista "bashing" isn't new behavior, so why are you still making yourselves vulnerable to it? Just treat the clueless and ignorant like the sheep that they are and ignore it. They'll eventually exile themselves from pretty much any intellectual discussions in the future that way (as soon as others catch on). Pretty simple (but effective) strategy: Let nature work itself out.

There are also the type of troll that makes a post that seems like they're trying to help but then throws in a subtle remark that essentially says "use XP, not Vista", and then there's also the trolls (usually the same people) that act like they're staying on topic, even in XP-central topics, but then add the shot at Vista for no reason whatsoever.
