dsp_418
hi all, I've patched the uxtheme with the latest dll (6.0.6001.18000_AMD64_XX). It worked but after the SP1 something weird is happening. Dunno exactly when and why, some vertical part of the screen appear shifted, making the screen totally unreadable. In the meanwhile the only solution I've found it has been switch to the old classic win. style: so, no aero fx at all :( I'm also thinking to restore the previous uxtheme files, but probably I've done something stupid in the sp1 updating process, since the old dll now are same as new dlls. Any help??

Massacher
always make a backup first! i had this problem too. if you haven't backed up then the only way i know is to re-install Vista.
theyarecomingforyou
Vista Ultimate includes a backup utility that can image your entire Windows install - very useful for when you want to start messing about with replacing .dll files. I've given up patching files to get custom themes with Vista as it looks good enough anyway. Not only that but the 64bit version is a lot more sensitive when it comes to security and I don't feel like compromising system files in order to achieve a new look. NEway, hopefully you've learnt your lesson.

blued
You dont need backups. Just run sfc /scannow and it will restore the original files.
JimmyDave
I the backup is needed anyway, you can use vista's own backup utility or may take help of any other backup software.
