markwolfe Veteran Posted July 23, 2008 Veteran Share Posted July 23, 2008 Some of the items you post links to sites for are available in the repos (which is preferred, since it does dependencies and updates for you). Items like kompozer. Also, I much prefer k3b to nero.
Barney T. Administrators Posted July 23, 2008 Administrators Share Posted July 23, 2008 Nine links. I also like k3b better, but each to his own likings. Also, I highly recommend using the APT command line or Synaptic (APT GUI interface) whenever possible. This package manager is better at resolving conflicts and importing dependencies for applications that need them.
4CxbqFxVnstmA Veteran Posted July 23, 2008 Veteran Share Posted July 23, 2008 Thanks for a cool list! I just wish getdeb had a proper functioning repo.... This is a good idea, though, sharing your Linux essentials with others :D

I use the medibuntu and the wine repos for my needs. I think for a while you could hook into a getdeb repo but it has not worked for a while now. It was nice when it did. Repos as in repositories..? Like, you've got the ubuntu repos at your service when you install, you can choose which of those to activate. And you can add others. As I said, I add the above two. Getdeb would be NICE added :D
markwolfe Veteran Posted July 23, 2008 Veteran Share Posted July 23, 2008 "repos" are the repositories that hold all the available software. Sort of like a huge shopping mall. When you use apt (or the GUI counterpart/frontend, synaptic), you are getting the software from the repos. And if the package you want has additional requirements (dependencies), then these are sought out and also downloaded for you. And k3b just totally rocks!

Yep, I prefer it too, but sometimes, it's not available, or for example it's not up to date, so that why link, as you counted 9! :p Thanks for a cool list! I just wish getdeb had a proper functioning repo....This is a good idea, though, sharing your Linux essentials with others :D Thanks! :) Good to know that someone appreciate it. Actually a couple of days, well now it's maybe more months, but when I switched to linux it was quietly hard to figure out everything, how to install, what is what, so that why I thought to help "starters" with this thread, so that they know some apps, which they might need! :) warez? Naaa....it's just for try out! :p ...you have to buy it if you want it! *sorry 4 that, just an old windows habit!

Kreuger
Some of these are great and others are useless to me. Thanks for a cool list! I just wish getdeb had a proper functioning repo.... Me too man, that would make things so much easier. I guess I'll keep relying on RSS feeds for letting me know of updates.
