latest / best IM's?

Recommended Posts

Pidgin is the way to go.

Yahoo also has web messenger that runs in your browser, and Yahoo also integrates IM in email too

I've been using Carrier (formally Funpidgin) recently. It's a fork of Pidgin, but the devs are a little less "up tight" about their project, and are happy to to listen to users feedback and try and implement new ideas.

Galaxium is looking good and will certainly develop into a nicely rounded chat program.

aMSN is good if you really need webcam support, but the interface is ugly. Emesene is a nice lightweight WLM clone. Both only use the MSN protocol though.

What's the best IM for Windows Vista?

A good question for a thread that is in the Vista section.

I have been using Emesene

An IM for the WLMTM/MSN network

It's a nice looking GTK application that is very customizable/minimal and a sweet alternative to Pidgin.

sudo apt-get install emesene

Highly recommended.
