Spam Filter

Recommended Posts

I'm using Evolution for my email and for the life of me I cannot get the junk filter to work. I installed Spamassasin thinking that would help the situation but it doesn't.

I get my messages, then highlight one, mark it as junk and in the lower corner it shows that it's learning the junk settings. It never does, if it's learning, then it's only for that session. I'll receive the same message and it's still added into my inbox.

It's not a major issue, but it is something that is driving me batty!

Is there a setting I'm missing or a plugin I could use instead?

If this doesn't go in this forum, please let me know!

Well, Evolution is (to my knowledge) Linux only. There isn't a port to Windows for it, so I suppose the *nix section is the place to expect the most people familiar with it.

Unfortunately, I am not one of them. :( I used Evolution briefly when I used Red Hat, then I switched to the lighter kmail (and on to thunderbird when it came out). Silly question, but it seems that Evolution may have spam filtering OFF by default, and might need to be activated under: Edit->Preferences->Mail Preferences->Junk->Check incoming mail for junk

I dug up a couple of links that might help:

Solution:

triliaeris@host$ sudo yum install thunderbird

Seriously - I would stay away from Evolution. It is really, really buggy.

If you insist on using Evolution - make sure that 'Check incoming mail for junk' is checked in Preferences -> Mail Preferences -> Junk.

I thought about Thunderbird but I was working through a huge Fedora book and it only had a small bit dedicated to it so I decided to stick with the book for now.

I'll have to see if it's fixable and if not, I think I will just make the switch to Thunderbird. Is it pretty straightforward with customizable options?

Mozilla Thunderbird is really easy to use imho. Another advantage: It runs on all platforms Mozilla Firefox runs on.

I like Thunderbird. My wife prefers it to Outlook that she used to use.

Evolution is nice, I guess, if you have a lot of the enterprise integration that is is designed to support (calendering and so forth). But if you are after just a mail client, there are better options.

After you finish your book, look around and pick what suits you best (who knows, it may even be Evolution).
