ubuntu hp driver build problem

Recommended Posts

Currently running ubuntu 8.0.4 LTS and having problems install the hp print driver. I'm using the driver

hplip-2.8.6b.run When I try to install everything seem to be ok until the Makefile process starts. I get an error 2 message and then it terminates. I haven't seen anyone else having problems so what am I doing wrong.

Note: I need to install because I want to use my hp Photosmart d7260 printer running on my network.

^^^ Agreed. I would try what is easily available (and will be automatically updated by the system when the repos get updated) first.

Trying to do things manually might be making more work than is needed. Try to add the printer with the built-in tools. It worked great for the inkjet attached to my wife's machine without any need to manually download and run installers. It "just worked". (Y)

Just had a look for you at http://hplip.sourceforge.net/models/photos...200_series.html

You need at least version 2.7.9 for your printer, and the one in the repo is 2.8.2, so you should be OK with it. Use Synaptic to install it.

Unfortunately scan and fax functions aren't included, but network is. You may be able to get some scan functionality back using other tools like Sane.
