DGMurdockIII
could we get a version of shift for mac for both power pc and intel mac
Cadium
You should be able to install Shift on any Intel Mac, the only problem would be the device drivers for most of the Apple technologies (the back-lit keyboard on the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, two-finger scrolling on the trackpad, etc). Rudy
there's no need for an Intel Mac version (since it already works on them) and a ppc version is a bit useless since most people are going away from the ppc chips
markwolfe Veteran Posted August 7, 2008 Veteran Share Posted August 7, 2008 Once a bit more established, it could be done... But a dev team member would need equipment to test on, so that may limit the ability to produce a release for that platform.

If anyone would donate a shiny new G5 Mac, I'll try it ;)

Barney T. Administrators Posted August 9, 2008 Administrators Share Posted August 9, 2008 We've had a change in the development team, so we've had to regroup. We are currently working on Shift One (a DVD version of Shift) and Shift Lite (a Fluxbox edition). It should be out in a couple of months or so. Check out this thread: https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=655536 Thanks for your interest.

Alexandre.
Soz for the bump, I was just interested, are there still any plans for a PPC based shift? You should be able to install Shift on any Intel Mac, the only problem would be the device drivers for most of the Apple technologies (the back-lit keyboard on the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, two-finger scrolling on the trackpad, etc). Due to being heavily involved in the OSX86 scene, I learnt its pretty easy to port the drivers on a mac, to ones for Linux. ( although I would hardly be able to do it :p) there's no need for an Intel Mac version (since it already works on them) and a ppc version is a bit useless since most people are going away from the ppc chips In our house we still have 3 Macs that run on PPC chips :p
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted September 15, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 15, 2008 Ubuntu's got a PPC distro, with drivers for stuff (Everything on my mac's supported) Getting it to run isn't the problem, testing it is.
