You need to visually view the difference on sets that size and resolution to see if it warrants the price. If you are going to go with a BD player, you should (without a doubt) get a PS3. Its the most cost effective and future proof player out. It also plays video games. As far as audio goes, you will get much better sound from a BD player. You might not tell the difference between 720p/1080p on a smaller set, but that doesn't matter for the purchase of an HD player, that is for specs of a TV and what you want to buy. Hell-In-A-Handbasket Posted August 11, 2008 Share Posted August 11, 2008 i have a 60in HDTV, there is a bigger difference the larger the set / higher rez. for a price standpoint i would recomend the PS3, i got one and only use it for movies ( i dont play games on it, i have a 360 for that ) for the Price of the PS3 you have a Guaranteed Compatible Blue-Ray Player, Alot of Blue-Ray sets out there are not always Compatible with every Disk/BR format Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Xero Posted August 11, 2008 Share Posted August 11, 2008 The PS3 is easily the best Blu Ray player, but personally I'd avoid it if you can, get an AppleTV, or something equal that will let you stream content from your computer to your tv. I have a pretty big library of tv shows, and movies, in hd if available. Not only is watching shows quicker than having to get up and put a disc in. But you can jump between movies, no worry about losing discs, and my favorite, if you watch a lot of tv shows, you don't have to switch through a bunch of discs just for 1 season. If you have a good digital collection, or can at least make one, I'd advise going digital. However there are drawbacks if you really want the "most hd" blu ray will give you crisper sound and video. matt4pack Posted August 11, 2008 Share Posted August 11, 2008 The only drawback of the PS3 is that their is no IR sensor as it only has bluetooth so that means universal remotes won't work with the PS3. New 80GB SKUs are replacing the 40GB SKUs in about a month time. (Worldwide) I believe that it not only includes a 80GB HDD but also a DualShock3 controller .. but I'm not sure.. The issue to do with 4GB is because the PS3 can't read from any external sources that are in NTFS, only FAT32. Due to that it's not possible to put a file bigger than 4GB on a FAT32 drive as we know, therefore you can't transport files over 4GB through a usb drive. You can use a DL DVD, or copy the file through your Home network using TVersity onto your PS3 hard drive though, if the file is greater than 4GB. I do that - My PS3 and PC are wired to my router, so it only takes about 5-10 mins to copy 4GB+ files to my PS3. However most of the time I just plain and simply stream the video files, seeing as being wired at both ends means 720p/1080p content can stream without any lag. Mostly with Sony TV's (no surprise there!) rather than the LG model you are looking at here...
