Xeta
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_macro Does Neowin have a policy on image macros? Does Neowin have a policy on posts that consist solely of an image macro? Does Neowin have a policy on posts that contribute nothing to the discussion and yet contain one of these "wastes of bandwidth?" If not, should Neowin? Or is it really not that big of deal and I should just report the... person who's wasting space in the thread? -------- I'm not sure what forum this would belong in, so I'm starting the topic here. I searched but found little to nothing on the subject.
markwolfe Veteran Posted August 13, 2008 Veteran Share Posted August 13, 2008 I find it obnoxious if a post is solely an image "macro" (which is nothing more than an image with a caption, before I read the wiki link, I was thinking there was executable code) In fact, I find images annoying enough that my board preferences have images (including sigs and avatars) set "off". And, yes Neowin has rules about posts that are devoid of content (such as constantly containing only smileys). You *did* actually read the rules right? I know that is covered. ;) EDIT: You can set your board settings here: https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?act=UserCP&CODE=
PermaSt0ne
the common term is "motivationals", nobody will know what you are talking about if you say image macros. and they provide more to the thread than if you just typed out what you felt. they say what you felt and put it in context with a picture. i don't see why you'd have a problem with them? shockz
I don't mind if they are funny... like the facepalm or cat ones, but rude ones... no.

markwolfe Veteran Posted August 14, 2008 Veteran Share Posted August 14, 2008 Wow, your neowin must look really really.......REALLY boring :o :p But easy to actually read. No annoying large images. Or people quoting an overly large image to just post an "LOL" with it. When images contain real content, then I might turn them back on. Until then, it just takes a click to view them (like, for example, in the desktop thread, if people are raving over someone's desktop, I can easily look). But for reading Neowin, much better. (I guess my opinion would be different if I hung out in the "Photoshop this!" threads, or the lolcat threads)

The_Decryptor Veteran Posted August 16, 2008 Veteran Share Posted August 16, 2008 the common term is "motivationals", nobody will know what you are talking about if you say image macros.... There's a difference between a motivational (or de motivational) image and a macro. Here's some I prepared earlier. ^ Motivational ^ Image Macro Personally, If it's just a macro and no contribution, then no, it's bad. But if it's a macro and a contribution then it's fine by me. Xeta
Thanks for the info, Markjensen. I'll have to get in and change those around. And thanks for the examples, The_Decryptor.
