DrunkenMaster
I remember a few years back that some of the Linux certs were a "joke". At least according to some websites and technical press. That you could study for them in 2 days, the questions were too random - the study material would talk about MySQL and Apache and it wouldn't be on the test. I've been looking at getting either (with no preference of either) the Solaris Admin or a Linux cert. I don't work as an admin. Let's just say its to boost my resume. If one is seen as more difficult, thorough or better to get which to recommend? I've been using the 'Nixes on/off for 7 years so I'm fairly comfortable. I'm not planning BTW to go to the highest levels. I know the Solaris ones go up to managing huge clusters. Not for me.
markwolfe Veteran Posted August 18, 2008 Veteran Share Posted August 18, 2008 If you plan on getting anywhere near a Red Hat system, or are interviewed by people who would at least be swayed by certs, Red Hat certs seem pretty good (plenty of real life lab work mixed with healthy doses of clasroom & theory). https://www.redhat.com/certification/ <== general start page for info https://www.redhat.com/certification/compare/ <== comparison information https://www.redhat.com/courses/rh131_red_ha...ration/details/ <== sample course outline Their site even offers pre-assessment micro-tests, if you register on their site. I registered and sampled these a few years ago. I presume that registration for these examples are still open enough for you to take a look at the material covered and see for yourself.
