tsupersonic
I have Ubuntu 8.04 installed, and decided to try out XFCE. I like it for being plain and simple. Anyways, every time I login to an XFCE session, applications autostart, like Transmission, Pidgin and Firefox. So how do I stop those apps from starting when I login? I checked the Autostarted Apps under settings, and the apps aren't listed there. Also, these same apps don't start up when I use Gnome. Thanks in advance! markwolfe Veteran Posted August 20, 2008 Veteran Share Posted August 20, 2008 (edited) It's been a while, but I think that XFCE can remember your apps from session to session, and will restart what you previously had running. Log in, close them manually. Then log out and back in, and see if they are still auto-started (I am guessing not). Or poke around and look for a setting for the "remember apps" option. EDIT: http://wiki.xfce.org/faq#some_of_my_applic...ed_when_i_login EDIT #2: (Y) for XFCE. It is my second-favorite Linux desktop. tsupersonic
Thanks mark. I didn't have the "Automatically Save sessions on logout" enabled, so I cleared out the sessions cache directory. Will logout then back in and report back. What's your first favorite desktop? EDIT: Woohoo, apps don't autostart anymore. Thanks again! Edited August 20, 2008 by tsupersonic

It's not one for most people who are attached to a start button, or to desktop icons, though :p Glad your XFCE issue has been corrected.
Evolution
fyi FluxBox isn't a desktop, it's a window manager ;) XFCE is pretty much the lightest Desktop Environment out there. markwolfe Veteran Posted August 20, 2008 Veteran Share Posted August 20, 2008 BTW you might be interested in taking a look at http://lxde.org/ (LXDE):) LXDE = Openbox. No offense, but it is getting far more promotion than it has earned. It isn't anything "new", just Openbox with a panel included, and a couple of default apps.
