Finding files more easily in Windows XP (without any other software)

Recommended Posts

You could actually find a file or folder in any folder (in Windows XP) more easily just by typing its name (quick enough) in the folder. It may not be as useful or efficient as the instant Search feature integrated in Windows Vista and some other softwares, but it does help a little.

For example, let's say you're in your My Documents folder, and you're trying to look for the file, happy.doc (Word 2003 Document). You just have to type the word in full or just partially (e.g. "hap", "ha" or "happ") quick enough, then Windows will automatically highlight the file with the name (which you have just typed). If you type "hap", the file with the first three letters "happ" will be highlighted.

Well, I guess you will get what I'm trying to say here. I tried looking for this trick anywhere in Google, but found none. Perhaps I'm the first to discover this undocumented trick? :D

Anyway, just wanna ask, is this trick documented anywhere?

Finding files more easily
isn't a real problem if all u deal is a couple of video files, a (huge!) MP3 collection (jukeboxes) but becomes messy if its word/pdf/xls/similar documents which contains searchable text..

Vistas search is really handy for that purpose..

Arranging data-files in a rcognizable pattern is the key if its XP without any search aids. the said trick is an old one.
