curme
I installed Ubuntu 8.10 and want to access my hard drive where all of my stuff is. Unfortunately, I couldn't see the rest of my hard drive, just the Ubuntu folders. Really annoying. I mounted my hard drive, but when I restart Ubuntu, my hard drive is gone again, and I have to remount it again. Really, really, annoying. Is there a way for Ubuntu to remember that I have a hard drive?
markwolfe Veteran Posted August 25, 2008 Veteran Share Posted August 25, 2008 Ubuntu mounts what it needs. You can manually mount your NTFS partitions, so that is good. But, if you want it to do this for you every time, you need to tell Linux that you need that mounted at boot. And to do this, you need to add a one-line entry into your /etc/fstab file. I haven't used NTFS in Linux in over 5 years, so I cannot be very specific, but there are a lot of guides you can find on Google, or Ubuntu's site, if you need a little guidance. Boktai1000
Try using the NTFS configuration tool +1 for this, I'm currently using it. I think its time for them to have it do this automatically, maybe include the package pre-configured to set up for how many hard drives someone has. I remember when I first installed Ubuntu I had such a hard time getting the hard drives to auto-mount then disable the password on them which they've improved on since then.
