Hey wildliquid,

I posted this for others to see too, hope you dont mind :)

The image at the bottom of the page I have here were 100% ENTIRELY made in photoshop to show you the power of this program and to show you how these effects were possible. The vial was made in about 5 minutes, because I didn't have a vial pre-made, so sorry about the inaccuracy of the image as far as realism goes, and the Castlevania ad I actually did last night just to practice up on advertising and marketing techniques.

Ok, what you would want to do is start out like one of those aqua pill tutorial, except this time instead of starting out with the pill horizontally, you would start vertically and work your way up from there. The best thing to do is look for pictures of vials and notice the small detail like caustics ( photons passing through or off a reflective or transparent object onto a surface, like reflecting light off a glass and seeing the patterns of light on the table) and other things like reflectiveness on the tube itself. Here are some examples:

(Notice the light coming from under the vials shadow on the third link? Those are caustics.)

The fourth link is another good example, notice the way it is shaped up top and at the bottom, where the glass has been blown into a concave bellow this part right here is important to show for a realistic image. They are not that hard to make, remember in reflectivity that black and white is a key visual to how reflections are made, the same is on the water touching the glass walls on top and bottom. There are no shades of gray really. one easy way to preform this is to use layer effects like bevel and emboss and inner shadow, then mess around with the gloss contour ( the thing right below where you choose the angle of the drop shadow for example, it says "gloss contour". After you do that effect, you can make a new layer, merge it with the layer that has the effect on it, then it's a regular layer in which you can create another layer effect. This is awesome to do and is alot easier than most other ways in anything that uses layer effects. Remember, you want this to look sharp, not soft, or else you wont get the true effect of reflectivity and glass. Now as far as blood goes, one thing to remember is that blood is always darker than you think, thicker, and less shiny as well. One of the best way I found out how to do this is through multiple layers with blending modes such as overlay, multiply, and soft light. But as far as creating it, you start out with a paint brush, around 200 or so, and wipe across the screen in the pattern you want the blood to flow like, then use chrome, which is in filters> sketch> chrome. Keep doing it (ctrl+ f / command + f on mac) until you have notice a difference and the soft edges of the paint brush now become hard edged and water like. Make sure to paint on its own layer though. Everything you do in photoshop should be on it's own layer. after that, you can add color with the "Hue/Saturation" toolbar (ctrl + u / Command + u ) and click on "Colorize" then turn up the saturation, turn down the brightness and turn the hue value bar till you get to red. after that, you can create more layers and overlay them or soft light them till you get a good feel. After that, you are set to go. I hope this helps out as far as designing your project, sorry I couldn't go into further detail as I have work in a couple of minutes. But this is how I do some of my work, hopefully you'll understand what I am talking about. Good luck with your designing. :)

 no prob, just remember to always think in realistic terms, research on how blood curdles and how it moves, this same sense of realism should be applied to all images like shadow bends, reflective curves, point of impacts, etcetera. This is how you make realistic images, and yes, I found everything on google.
