Which direction to go next..

Recommended Posts

Ok so let's just say i have $800 to spend on a new camera right now... I was trying to decide whether to go with an XSI or Sony 350... out of these 2 i would have likely chosen the XSI because Canon has never let me down. Now with that said, i know the D90 and the 50D are coming out from Nikon and Canon. So i was thinking that i may just hold on and try to get a 40D when they drop in price. Is this a wise move?

Realistically can we expect much of a price drop when the 50D comes out? Enough so that i may be able to get a 40D kit for under 1k?

what do you think i should do? I really am tempted to buy an XSI but i feel that even though it's a huge step from my XT, that it's still entry level and i'd like to move up a bit.

From your skill level, I think you're ready to go to a 40D. Not that there's anything wrong w/ the xsi, but I think you'll be happier in the long run with the 40D, and it'll last you longer than the XSI will.

The XSI is a great body but it looks like you want to move out of the totally entry level, I'd say the XSI is more away from entry level but still consider one of those bodies. You would be happier in the short and long term if you got a 40d, you can find them under 1k now and I bet they'll drop a little more but not a whole lot. On Amazon right now you can find good 40d bodies from respectable vendors for around $950 - $970
