Owen W Veteran Posted August 31, 2008 Veteran Share Posted August 31, 2008 Hi there, I'm trying to use SteelFlash Final (it just looks so damn awesome!) on my Vista Sp1 PC, and cannot work out how to patch the system32.dll file. I've tried replacer with an access denied error (yep, it was running in administrator mode), tried again in safe mode, and tried to do it manually. Do I need to use TakeControl before I do this? Or whats the story? I also have the same problem patching browseui.dll in the system32 folder as well. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
bishy
Hi Owenw, Yes, you are right, you do need to use take control to (yes you've guessed it) take control of each file. Once you have control of the file, you can then rename the extension to .bak or similar and then replace it with the file that you want. Hope this makes sense.............BTW maybe create a system restore point, or some sort of backup before you start in case you mess up. Speak to you soon. bishy. Thanks for that mate, I used the "Take Ownership" context menu item to do it - worked out perfect! My desktop now looks stunning! :)
