4870 Vs 4850 Differences

Recommended Posts

I'm planning on picking one of these cards up but I am very low on money. I have about $250 give or take $10. Is the 4870 that much better then the 4850 or if I overclock a 4850 I will get about the same performance? I can get the 4870 but that means more waiting and saving :|

Thanks,

4870 has better cooling and if you play at fairly large resolution then you'll notice a difference probably but beside that not much will be noticed but for the cooling etc alone if you can go for 70 i would. People who're critical of sound comeing from pc despise 4850's cooler plus it doesn't really cool too well without modding files and making it noisy by turning the fan up so yeah...

it really depends on what resolution you're trying to run on...

Additionally, resolution is important still, if the OP was looking for a card to push all the eye candy possible, they can merely look up reviews and get a guesstimate of where the two cards stack up at 1680?1050 or lower. In 19?12 range, I'd say the best option is the 4870.

I would read that article, as you see af 4850 gains about 10% over your old card. if you feel 200 bucks with worth 10%, more power to you.

My old card is integrated graphics mate, much more then 10% :p

Turns out I can get a 4870 of a friends dad who works IT :)

Thanks :D

Where does he say what his old card is? (besides the post immediately above mine)

For the record, I have a 4870 and it's awesome. Hope you enjoy yours!

I'm eyeballing a 4870 to replace my GeForce 8800 GTS 640 MB. I have a 30" monitor (2560x1600) and definitely want something fairly high end that can handle games at this resolution. However, I absolutely despise loud fans. In my current system, the hard drives (dual raptors) are WAY louder than the fans, even when playing something intense. I don't know anyone with a 4850, but the horror stories on newegg were enough to convince me to avoid them. Are they really that bad? How bad are the 4870s? I don't want to pay to be annoyed by my video card....

This review puts the 4870 up against the 4850 and a few other cards... The 4870 blows the 4850 out of the park.

lmao, Atleast say something smart...

If you have a 19" screen , i see no reason to take the 4870.

4850 will serve you fine and will do crysis and games great (though, i hate crysis, all you do is hide in some bushes :/)

anyway, if you're screen is 22" or bigger, and you're gaming ofc id take the 4870, if you have parents who come everyday with a bucket O' cash to the house, buy a 50+" screen and take 2x 4870x2 DDR5( i think) 2GB and crossfire them, muhaha

    • "New" Outlook has themes and colours and all sorts of visual customizations not just black and white.
    • What a bizarre statement. Why are you against users having choices? Are you against all extensions or just ad blocking? What about extensions to alter the W11 start menu to suit user preferences. Are you against those?
    • Honestly, I've been using the Lite version for a couple of months now, and it's been working well for me in my daily life. So much that I don't even miss the original version.
    • I use classic for reliability. Dark grey is vastly better than the all black or all white of new outlook.
