[Official] Mercenaries 2

My only complaint is the sound, the enemies get annoying. I had to push the graphics down to Medium or they broke hardcore, but then I upgraded 175.16 drivers to 177.92 which is definately faster. I think they may have fixed things up as well.

I definately think the game seems unfinished in more than one way, but I'm happy they released it around the same time as the console ports for a change. I didn't want the Xbox 360 version, or I'd have bought that. :p

They'll probably have a patch soon enough that improves things.

I doubt it. Half Life 2 looks (and runs) better. I can't see them releasing a 2gb patch to improve textures.

What happened to EA saying we'll release games WHEN THEY ARE FINISHED?!

Thats insane, no 16:10 resolutions, that should be standard by now, how the hell do they test this games when they are doing Quality Assurance, on 14" monitors at 800 * 600 ???

I was so excited to get this, might just skip it, can someone post some pics (taken by you).

Well according to the Merc 2 forums which are full of complaints, the avail resolutions for the PC game is -

640x480

800x600

1024x768

1152x864

1280x720

1600x1200

Well everyone is getting different resolution reports but those are the main ones. Some can only go to 1152x864 though

Pretty poor imo

i only have one major complaint at the moment about this game and thats the inability to play with some other PAL players on the 360 [afaik atm]

otherwise its a good game that'll keep me ocupied for a fair while once i can play co-op

It's not very good, tbh (PS3 version here).

Main gripes are:

1. Aiming is terribly awkward - the more you move the stick to the left/right, the faster it accelerates to the left/right. It just feels very strange and taking a lot of time getting used to.

2. The aiming reticule has little relation to where your bullets go - it's basically a case of 1 clip for 1 kill.

3. Hit detection is abysmal.

4. Enemies seem to consist of 2 men in a jeep for the most part and, early in the game, your weapons aren't suited to taking them out. Comically, if the jeep turns over, the man in the gun at the rear of the jeep stays there...on his side. Bit lame.

5. Comparison to GTA are silly - there are vast swathes of empty landscape, the textures are plain and just look terrible.

6. As with most EA games lately, some obstacles trap you and you have to jumpjumpjumpthrowjoysitkcaround to get free. Happened in Bad Company too...

7. Graphics don't appear to be anti-aliased.

I could tolerate most of that but the aiming system and stupid inaccuracy of the guns makes it incredibly tedious to kill anything.

Does anyone know why they keep doing these kind of games in 3rd person? I think 1st person would be much more fun, just keep 3rd person for vehicles, I really don't like my character on screen, imo it doesn't fully immerse you in the game. If you just see the weapon your holding any nothing else that makes it more realistic and fun.

Yes, cuz it's entirely realistic to look down and not see, you know.. shoes.

Or legs.

Or my giant e-pen0r.

;)

I hate to say it, but had EA not picked it up to publish and forced multiple ports, it might have been more solid. Even if there was simply timed-exclusivity, all ports might have been better.

Just wait for a patch. I suspect after one patch the game'll be pretty solid.

The graphics are fine if you up the view distance and use 177.92 drivers, I wasn't impressed at all at first but it's decent with some tweaking.

The sound though? They keep repeating the same crap over and over nonstop. I don't know if thats just a glitch but its irritating as all hell. I like wandering around more than doing missions because of that.

I am surprised to see a game released in this state, but I would've bought the 360 version if it'd been another six months to the PC version, so I guess I can see where they're coming from releasing as is.

Heed my warning when I say it's a very bad game on the PC. There's no option for 16:10 resolutions, the textures are really bad, and the controls are pathetic. I doubt the console versions are that much better. It's unfortunate because this game had so much potential. I actually looked forward to blowing up buildings and vehicles in a sandbox type environment. Oh well...

It's terrible on the consoles too. I don't think I have come across a person that has not mentioned a problem for each console they own the game for. I own it on the Xbox 360 and it's just problems everywhere. Especially achievement glitches which may not matter to some but do to others. It's terrible. I was looking forward to this game for so long, they could of just delayed it, again. I had so much fun playing the first Mercenaries and wanted to experience that fun again with Mercenaries 2 and on the latest consoles but no, can't really.

Also to what randomevent said, I no doubt expect a patch from them. But I highly doubt we will see a "pretty solid" patch. If they could not get how may problems this game has prior to releasing it and the delays it had, then they are never going to get it right. May even break the game more...

I rented this game through Gamefly for the PS3 (the 360 version was long wait), and this game is what it is. What I mean is it does what it does very well, and it is definitely enjoyable and fun to play if you are not in the mood to play a serious game that requires much thought. You blow stuff up, run around and blow some more stuff up while shooting some guys, and that is the basic premise, and sometimes it is just fun to blow stuff up. It has a somewhat open world approach from what I have seen (have only taken over the Villa so far), so honestly I think it is a good game, as again it delivers on its promise of blowing stuff up.
