sn00pie
I have my MacBook connected to my wifi network wirelessly, while my desktop is connected to my router via ethernet. My printer is connected to that desktop via USB. I want to be able to print from my MacBook to that USB printer on my desktop. My desktop is a PC by the way, can someone point me in the right direction, I've tried a few things and I'm stumped. :( Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/665466-sharing-a-printer-from-a-different-computer/ Share on other sites
se7en.hu
No real clue about this. But.. You do have printer sharing enabled under Windows right? I would think it should just come up on your mac provided its being shared... HellScream63
Yes, make sure you enable printer sharing under Windows. Afterwards you should be able to see the printer in the Add printer dialogue under the "Windows" tab. Also, check your firewall on the Windows machine to make sure it's allowing printer sharing to pass through. sn00pie
I'm pretty sure that's what I tried, I'll try it again though. Pink Floyd Veteran Posted September 5, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 5, 2008 The best way is to buy a printer server from a brand like linksys or to buy an Apple Airport extrem Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/665466-sharing-a-printer-from-a-different-computer/#findComment-589746252 Share on other sites
sn00pie
I'd prefer to do it without spending any money. The Airport Express is going to be $99, I'd rather just pickup and plug my printer everytime. :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/665466-sharing-a-printer-from-a-different-computer/#findComment-589746286 Share on other sites

giga Veteran Posted September 7, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 7, 2008 The printer doesn't show up in the add printer dialog? Try the other tabs? Disable firewall? sn00pie
It actually does show up in the Windows tab, it's just I don't seem to be able to find any Mac drivers for it. I found something when I googled it but it ended up installing all this HP junk that didn't even work. My printer is a HP PSC 1210. I can find the printer and everything, it's just I don't have the drivers to let it actually print from my Mac I guess... giga Veteran Posted September 7, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 7, 2008 The driver should already be included in 10.5 according to HP: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/documen...p;product=90764 Put your Leopard disc in and go to optional installs and reinstall the HP drivers. Then run Software Update to see if there are any updates. giga Veteran Posted September 7, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 7, 2008 Actually, I figured it out: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1370 Tips and notes 1. The Driver Version column contains the PPD file version for PostScript printers or printers using CUPS drivers. 2. Drivers that are denoted on the list as a Modern Driver are PPD files or drivers designed for CUPS. 3. Drivers that are not denoted as Modern Drivers cannot be selected when adding an IP printer or Windows shared printer. 4. The drivers that list "CUPS" as the manufacturer are sample drivers included with CUPS. You can see that the PSC series aren't modern drivers and thus can't be used as a windows shared printer. Blame HP for not providing those updated drivers. EnzoFX
I never got printer sharing set up for me from Windows to OSX. The printer was connected to windows, and I wanted to print from my iBook. Now, it's reversed, The printer is on OSX, and I want other windows machines to see the printer, I will attempt this later. Perhaps someone can link me to a good guide in the meantime =P Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/665466-sharing-a-printer-from-a-different-computer/#findComment-589754350 Share on other sites
