What the hell!?

Question

I like did some temporary site design, which mainly sucks, but whatever. It's like 1 or 2 months at least.

http://www.tomservo.cc/index.aspx

Then suddenly a pal found this one:

http://www.soopah256.com

What the &%$#?!

OK, not that it matters on THAT design, but it would on the new one. How much am I protected by putting a copyright on the page bottom for my new one in work? ( http://www.tomservo.cc/ )

Criticism makes you better. If you cant take criticism of any form, then you'll never get anywhere in design. If you ever do though, expect to get bad comments and designs scraped every day by clients who want something different or better. You guys whine if someone ever says your design is bad or needs to be changed too much. You're not always going to get the answer you want and not everyone is going to like what you have done, so grow up and get used to it. Like jimf43 said

That type of layout is soo common,? and, there isn't even that much to compare...? LOL, you're starting to sound like M$. Copyright the color 'Grey' or something.
And that is where I was getting at, it's trendwhorism. Maybe you wouldn't take it as a bad comment if I did a smily face instead of a period after a sentence, sorry, but I like proper grammar and could care less for emoticons.

El casho needs to get into anger management, if what I said got him mad, I would hate to see him when a client rejects a conceptual design. Allthough, he'll probably never get that far with a retarded close-minded attitude like that.

Not even that I'm afraid. That type of layout is soo common, and, there isn't even that much to compare... LOL, you're starting to sound like M$. Copyright the color 'Grey' or something.

:ninja: what i meant was, nothing wrong with soopah's site, it looks quite similiar with tom servo's website because it has a gradient grey color and orange or yellow text.

nothing wrong with that.

Wow.

I'm like complaining that someone simply ripped off my llamah site design without asking in beforehand, and this poophead of bluerei is whining like the almighty webuberdesigner about me using :: on my site with an orange scheme. Ah shag, I wish this board had an ignore function for such shagholes. I gotta investigate into that.

Yeah right. Same frame setup and same background gradients and same animation style, just a coincidence. The least thing he could have done before using it is asking. Well, he did afterwards when I 'reminded' him. It's simply out of principle.

there are millions of others who have the same type of design with the "::" look and scheme. You both might want to look into these things before assuming that you know what you're talking about.

These two sites are not 'the same type of design' they are exactly the same. I think Tom has every right to complain.

well..guys you all need yo cool down and stop this :argue: now!! ....neowin.net is a friendly place..and that what makes this forum stand out from the rest of the internet... :D

that point said...

Tom i noticed on your site you have a copyright 2003..and soopas does not...if your really willing to copyright your site it is possible for you to take a legal case against soopas for some copyright infringment..but you may not be willing to go that far...(try emailing him and tell him to redsign his site... ;)

i not not biasing my view on any of the 2 sites..but Tom he hasn't xactly copied it pxel by pixel..you can say he has copied the same style etc...but nothing else....

personally...i like tomservo's layout..but soopas menu system..

************************************************************************

and just one question i wanna ask you Tom...is there anychance you play online UT2K3?? just asking becuase i've played a guy called Tom Servo online several times... :o

I added the copyright only to that new look, not the one soopah uses. And it's more than just the same style, it looks almost the friggin' same. Well as said before, I don't particularily hang to that design anyway (it sucked, was just a test which turned out bad), it is just about the principle, because he didn't ask before using it.

And no, I don't play UT2K3. Game's too hectic for me.

So you think he stole your design that you stole from other people's design, and so the trendwhore circle is set in motion. What are you going to do about it? It's going to cost you a lot of money to take it to court, and no one will care because there are a million other sites that look just like yours, and because it's only a personal-use site, they'll probably laugh in your face. There are too many differences between the two sites to list here. I would mock you more, but your stupidity in making this thread allready did it for me. You would have a better chance crying to your mommy.

There's a difference between getting ideas from other sites and just plain copying other sites.

There is not one site on the internet that I haven't seen before. There are no original designs. They are all related and they all have similarities.

I agree going to court over this is silly (even thinking about it is)

OK, you assmonkey, if you think you're so original with your webdesigns, maybe you prove it? Post links about your company and links to sites you did! I seriously wanna see if you're so good as you're trying to pretend.

...

Ah whatever, index.aspx no longer points to the old crap, I'm about to push the new one on my site. So don't wonder if they dont look alike anymore.
And I was talking about this FYI:

http://www.tomservo.cc/indexold.aspx versus http://www.soopah256.com/

I replaced the index file shortly after posting this thread, but the original up again.

--edit--

Wow, after searching Google for his nick, I landed at deskmod, and wow, you know what? All those weirdo abstract renders, well how I'm gonna say, I've a pal on another board that's doing such stuff for years. Talk about trendwhoring. :hmmm:

you come off as a guy who thinks he is the king of all web/image design when in fact you don't always hold that job

just take it easy and remeber that not everyone is as good as you

-mxp

I come off that way, because thats the way you think I am. it's all in the eye of the beholder. I am giving my point of veiw from seeing these types of things all over the web, anyone who is constantly looking at new designs and styles would know this and agree. You might want to look at it from my angle and think about why I say that or this, it's not to hurt, just to inform.

True, it is in the eye of the beholder. But when its being beheld by everyone else on this site, that should tell you something.

I guess that other design of mine that is in the works since ages is prolly also a trendwhored ripoff. I think I will publish it in this forum soon, just to see what he's gonna say about it. :hmmm:
